Jacen Solo becomes a Sith ruler
Jacen Solo, son of Han and Leia, had survived the Yuuzhan Vong War and pursued ever more extreme approaches to preventing future suffering. In the Second Galactic Civil War he adopted the Sith name Darth Caedus and used positions of military and political authority to impose his vision of security.
Family and government are divided
The struggle placed relatives on opposing sides while different worlds debated loyalty to the Galactic Alliance and its increasingly coercive commanders. Caedus's actions demonstrated how fear of disorder could become a justification for secret arrests, violence and concentrating authority.
Jaina prepares to confront him
Jaina Solo accepted the dangerous task of stopping her brother when other efforts had failed. Their shared training and intimate knowledge made the encounter unlike a conventional duel against a stranger. Fighting occurred against the backdrop of the wider conflict's approaching end.
The final battle at Shedu Maad
In 41 ABY, Jaina defeated and killed Darth Caedus. The result ended his personal rule and removed a central force sustaining the war. It did not erase the damage caused to families and political institutions.
Anthropological assessment
The story shows how political violence can reach into kinship relationships. Jaina faced a conflict between obligations to her brother and responsibilities to people harmed by his exercise of power.
