Mustafar's massacre and duel: source and social analysis
Historical sequence and documented actions
On Sidious's orders, Anakin—now Darth Vader—went to Mustafar and killed leaders of the Separatist Council, eliminating conspirators whom Sidious had previously used to sustain the war. Padmé arrived and attempted to reach him; Obi-Wan then confronted his former Padawan. Their duel ended with Anakin gravely burned and maimed. Sidious recovered him and oversaw the fitting of a mechanical life-support suit.
Power, family and institutional consequences
The killings reveal the degree to which the war's apparent opposing sides were manipulated by one ruler. Mustafar also transforms the master-and-apprentice relationship from cooperation into deadly conflict. Vader's cybernetic survival depended on technology controlled by the Sith regime, turning life support and political dependence into linked parts of his new identity.
