Political tensions on Onderon erupted into civil war when General Vaklu moved openly against Queen Talia. Vaklu's faction had accepted support from Darth Nihilus's network, while Jedi Master Kavar advised the Queen. Meetra returned during the crisis and, in the light-side Legends outcome, helped Talia's forces defeat the coup.

ONDERON CIVIL WAR

Events and source limitations

General Vaklu challenged Queen Talia’s government on Onderon, drawing upon anti-Republic politics and assistance associated with Darth Nihilus’s wider Sith network. Jedi Master Kavar supported Talia. During 3951 BBY Meetra returned to Iziz and, in the light-side Legends path, helped defend the Queen and defeat the coup. The game also allows support for Vaklu in alternate outcomes, so the entry must not pretend there was no choice. This conflict is distinct from the 3963 Mandalorian seizure and later 3960 liberation of Iziz.

People, institutions and consequences

Both factions invoked independence and security but proposed different ways of exercising sovereignty. Postwar memories of invasion, occupation and Republic intervention provided material for competing legitimacy claims. A local civil conflict could be influenced by offworld Sith agents without all participants knowingly belonging to a Sith political movement. The outcome therefore cannot be explained as a simple battlefield extension of the old Mandalorian conflict.

Postwar sovereignty becomes a domestic struggle

Onderon's disputes concerned monarchy, Republic affiliation, military power, and local autonomy.

Outside Sith support intensified a conflict with genuine internal causes.

Kavar returns to public political life

Anthropological assessment

The Onderon Civil War shows why foreign intervention should not be mistaken for the sole cause of internal conflict.

External actors gain leverage by entering disputes that already have local constituencies, grievances, and institutions.

The contested meaning of independence

Queen Talia's conflict with General Vaklu involved local government, allegiance to the Republic and the influence of military officers. Sith-linked intervention intensified the crisis but was not the only source of disagreement. Kavar's support of the Queen and Meetra's return made Jedi decisions part of Onderon's domestic struggle.

Vaklu could appeal to military loyalty while claiming to defend local sovereignty. Talia's supporters interpreted legitimate authority differently. This is why the event should be presented as more than a battlefield victory by a Jedi visitor. The original game allows divergent choices, while later light-side Legends material uses Talia's victory and Kavar's survival.

Are all possible outcomes simultaneous events?

Onderon's civil war tests the Republic settlement

Two programmes for the same monarchy

General Vaklu challenged Queen Talia's government while a major part of the dispute concerned whether Onderon should remain closely tied to the Galactic Republic. Memories of earlier Mandalorian occupation and the Republic's weakness provided a context for different positions on independence. Queen Talia and Jedi Master Kavar defended one vision of lawful authority; Vaklu's supporters favored a different path, supported by a Sith-aligned network. The existence of separatist grievances does not make every person who wanted independence a willing participant in Sith plans.

The coup intersects an external investigation

Meetra's search for the surviving Jedi Masters led her to Kavar, drawing her into the crisis. The game lets players shape their alignments and actions, so the exact sequence of local decisions varies. In the later light-side Legends outline, Meetra helped Talia's faction resist Vaklu and preserve the Republic-aligned monarchy. That record should be distinguished from alternate gameplay in which the player backs the other side. The result is not the same conflict as the much earlier Mandalorian attacks launched from Dxun.

Legitimacy is not settled by a duel

A civil war includes rival claims to government offices, military commands, sovereignty and the acceptance of outside allies. Even if the game resolves the major confrontations through combat, the political questions are wider than which side won a scripted encounter. An anthropological account can examine loyalty and competing public obligations without attributing a single view to every Onderonian. The eventual convergence of Onderonian military support with Telos's defense reflects choices made during this earlier crisis.

Test your historical judgment: Was the Onderon civil war a new Mandalorian conquest from Dxun?

Analysis: No. The 3951 BBY conflict was an internal struggle over Queen Talia, General Vaklu and Onderon's relationship to the Republic, with Sith interference. Earlier Mandalorian-era battles are separate events.
