Route-level chronology

After the Cathar genocide, Mandalorian expansion continued across the galactic east. Raids struck worlds such as Corsin and Azure, while a larger campaign captured Lianna and then split into two lines: one moved through Makem, Quermia, Kaelta, and Florn, while the other moved through Jaminere, Sy Myrth, Taskeed, Dennogra, and Dernatine.

THE OUTER RIM SIEGES

Event sequence and source limits

Legends Atlas chronology describes a long eastern campaign following Cathar and before the Republic-wide 3963 Onslaught. Mandalorian war parties struck Corsin and Azure, moved against Lianna and advanced by divergent routes through systems including Makem, Quermia, Kaelta, Florn, Jaminere, Sy Myrth, Taskeed, Dennogra and Dernatine. Those paths are editorial reconstructions from reference cartography, not individually documented flight paths for named vessels. Exact troop numbers and specific local civilian experiences cannot be assigned to each system without further primary evidence.

People, technology and institutions

The distinction between Republic member states and less-protected independent worlds shaped which invasions drew immediate government response. Frontier settlements, trade and mining communities experienced conquest before many Core institutions treated the danger as a full Republic war. The existence of economic links across those borders made political inaction consequential. Mapping the sieges as two corridors helps readers compare the spread of coercion without claiming a complete daily operational history.

Two routes. One expanding war.

The existing IDS reconstruction, attributed to The Essential Atlas, proposes an order of connected systems but has not yet been checked against the original sourcebook map and page. Treat the two branches as provisional, not a surveyed route. Explore the two branches without mistaking a route diagram for a surveyed map.

CAMPAIGN SPLITS AFTERLianna
Explore the initial battle →

Branch A · Makem to Florn

Trade corridors turn into routes of conquest as each captured system supports the next movement.

Branch B · Jaminere to Dernatine

The advance moves from Republic-facing systems into Hutt Space, then to a later strategic staging point.

Additional documented raids: Corsin and Azure occurred in the same broad frontier campaign. Their exact interleaving with the two routes is not established. The c. 3973–3965 BBY range reflects conflicting date signals across source material, not a single nine-year-long battle.

What is established, and what is reconstructed?

The current IDS account attributes the linked systems and route relationships to a sourcebook campaign map, but that map and its accompanying prose have not been directly verified for this revision. The proposed sequence places these operations before direct Republic–Mandalorian warfare around 3965 BBY. This graphic intentionally does not invent geographical distances, fleet sizes, casualty counts, day-by-day battle dates or coordinates.

Expansion before declared war

Mandalorian raids and conquests spread across frontier systems and territories near Republic and Hutt spheres of influence before the conflict escalated into direct, sustained war with Republic forces. The campaign chronology does not establish that every targeted world was a Republic member.

The frontier experienced continuous violence while central institutions still watched and debated.

Hutt Space is drawn into the conflict

The eastern offensive did not respect the Republic's political boundaries.

Taskeed, Dennogra, and Dernatine extended the raids into Hutt-controlled territory.

How this raid fits the campaign

The campaign map matters more than any single duel. These raids form the connective tissue between Cathar and the False War. They show Mandalorian strategy expanding eastward through frontier space before the Republic formally treated the situation as a full war.

Why is the date a range instead of a single year?

The current IDS summary attributes a route sequence to The Essential Atlas, but its exact map and page still require verification. No exact year has been established for each engagement. IDS therefore keeps the c. 3973–3965 BBY window visible instead of manufacturing precision.

What remains uncertain about these raids?

Individual dates, force compositions, tactical sequences and event-specific official artwork have not been verified for every campaign stop. The route account does not establish those details.

What the two-branch navigator actually shows

The Lianna–Florn and Lianna–Dernatine chains represent recorded route order, not distances, synchronized fleet movements, or precise dates. Corsin and Azure remain separate because their positions within those chains are not established.

Source verification: The route account follows the existing IDS summary of The Essential Atlas. The publisher record and Lucasfilm Atlas companion confirm the reference work, but the precise original map/page and the cited Essential Guide to Warfare passage still require direct checking.

Anthropological assessment

A map diagram makes relationships visible but can imply false precision. Equal-sized nodes do not indicate equal populations, troop numbers, or social consequences. The diagram is a route index, not a measured battlefield map.

The Outer Rim sieges show why war chronology depends on perspective.

A central government may date a war from direct military engagement while peripheral populations date it from the first raid, occupation, or massacre.

Many sieges, not one decisive invasion

The Outer Rim sieges cover a sustained period in which Mandalorian forces attacked worlds, tested Republic border defenses, and gradually built the position needed for later deeper offensives. Treating the span 3973–3965 BBY as the date of a single battle would hide its duration and the variation between affected systems. Some locations served as military targets, others as supply points or positions controlling the route into Republic space.

For a community on a threatened frontier, repeated raids can change economic decisions before formal occupation. Transporters may avoid a route, governments may divert supplies, and residents can disagree over resistance or accommodation. Those possibilities are questions about the social effects of an extended campaign, not license to invent particular refugee totals or settlement names. The subsequent 'False War' and 3963 Onslaught should be understood as phases within a developing struggle, not automatically as synonyms for every earlier siege.

Historical judgment: A multi-year campaign cannot be compressed into one battle. Publisher's related original account →. Publisher stories establish the main plot; social-institutional interpretations are IDS analysis. Exact day-level chronology is not asserted.
