SRAATO'S METEOR CATASTROPHE
Evidence, dates and historical boundaries
Around 3809 BBY a major meteor storm struck Sraato, a mineral-rich world also known as 244Core. It had been exploited covertly by the Systino crime syndicate since around 4009 BBY, using enslaved workers to extract precious materials. The storm pulverized much of the southern hemisphere, devastated mining infrastructure and filled the atmosphere with debris. The resulting ecological upheaval persisted for roughly five hundred years. The disaster's date is a reconstruction from the history of Systino's long occupation and does not have the precision of a dated first-hand meteorology report.
Anthropological interpretation
A natural catastrophe became a social disaster partly because resource extraction had already placed coerced laborers and economic facilities in vulnerable areas. The syndicate abandoned the planet after losing its source of wealth, demonstrating a difference between investor interests and the welfare of people who worked there. Long-lasting atmospheric and ecological effects prevented easy resettlement. Later treasure hunters remembered the planet's mineral wealth while paying much less attention to those displaced or killed during its extraction economy.

Environmental disaster outlasts political generations
A five-hundred-year ecological disturbance dwarfs the duration of most governments and individual lives.
Recovery becomes an intergenerational condition rather than one emergency response.
Resource value does not guarantee resilience
Sraato had attracted organized exploitation because of its materials.
Economic value could not protect the planet from astronomical catastrophe.
Anthropological assessment
The Sraato disaster shows why environmental events belong in political history.
Long-term ecological instability changes migration, settlement, resource access, and institutional capacity even when no war begins it.
