Around 3651 BBY, the Jedi renewed their presence on Tython, the world associated with the Order's ancient origins. Satele Shan's role in the rediscovery and resettlement strengthened her standing within the Order.

The Jedi return to an already rediscovered Tython
Evidence, timing and source limits
Around 3651 BBY the Jedi expanded their resettlement on Tython, which SWTOR's official history says they had rediscovered earlier during the Great Galactic War, an ancient world associated with the origins of the Jedi tradition. Satele Shan played a major role in this return while the Order reassessed its position after the destruction of its Coruscant Temple. The date marks renewed institutional access to a sacred location, not the first moment anyone in galactic history knew the planet existed. The actual decision to relocate headquarters and construct a new Temple took place afterward, around 3650.
Anthropological interpretation
Returning to an ancestral landscape can restore collective identity after political defeat. The Jedi treated Tython as both a place of living communities and a site where narratives of origins had material importance. Rediscovery made archaeology and sacred geography part of institutional rebuilding. The event also asks whose knowledge counts as rediscovery, since existing local inhabitants and earlier Jedi histories complicate the idea of an entirely unknown world.
How to separate evidence from later interpretation
The event is conventionally situated in 3651 BBY, within the Great Galactic War or Cold War. Some archival sources offer only an approximate year or a retrospective account. Check whether a claim describes the contemporary public view, a later discovery or the historian's interpretation before treating them as equivalent.

Anthropological assessment
Institutional recovery often uses sacred geography. Returning to an ancestral site helps a damaged organization frame retreat as renewal rather than defeat.

Corrections to the date of Tython's rediscovery
SWTOR's official Tython planet history explicitly places modern Jedi rediscovery early in the Great Galactic War. The official Satele Shan biography confirms that she recovered the world and its hyperspace route. Neither official source dates the original rediscovery to exactly 3651 BBY. That matters because this page's surviving URL places the entry in 3651, after the Sacking of Coruscant. This record should therefore be read as renewed postwar resettlement of an already known planet, not a newly verified first discovery in that year.
Finding an accessible route is different from deciding to move an entire institution. Following the treaty, the Jedi returned to the ancestral world, rebuilt training activities and eventually developed a Temple complex. Relocation required decisions about people, equipment, teachers and archives that could occur long after the first expedition established the route. A history that combines all those moments into one discovery erases distinct forms of labor and governance.
IDS also questions what a 'rediscovery' means. The term describes the Jedi Order regaining access to a place of ancestral memory; it does not mean that the planet had no earlier inhabitants or that its history began when the Order returned. The headquarters move and Temple building deserve their own dating. The exact first-discovery year remains unverified by these publicly accessible official pages.
Source challenge: Does the developer's Tython Holonet explicitly confirm 3651 as the first rediscovery year?
What the evidence shows: No. It describes rediscovery earlier in the Great Galactic War. This legacy 3651 page is now distinguished as postwar return and resettlement.
Primary official source: Official Tython planetary history. Official story text supports the identified setting and events, but precise BBY dates, private dialogue and complete witness accounts may require additional primary-game or reference-book checking. The anthropological analysis here is IDS interpretation, not a quotation from a character.
