A life in context

Formerly known as Tyresius Lokai, Gault Rennow is a Devaronian fugitive and con artist who transforms false identities into a survival strategy and later targets the Eternal Empire's wealth.

Tyresius Lokai before the new name

Gault Rennow is not his original name. BioWare's Holonet gives his earlier identity as Tyresius Lokai, a Devaronian smuggler and confidence trickster who deceived powerful and wealthy clients. His professional identity depended upon his ability to appear credible long enough to gain money, cargo or an advantage before a victim recognized the deception.

The Holonet lists substantial standing bounties from Karagga the Hutt and both Republic and Imperial security organizations. These amounts document how different institutions viewed Lokai, not necessarily the actual value of any one of his crimes. Their combined pressure explains why preserving a single stable identity became dangerous.

A dossier must distinguish his Devaronian species from the occupation he chose. The capacity for deception is learned and practiced; it is not a cultural or biological trait of all Devaronians. Gault's individuality matters precisely because his identity is made through relationships, debts, aliases and improvisation.

The new identity as a professional instrument

As Lokai's enemies multiplied, he adopted the identity of Gault Rennow. The Holonet describes the change as a way to obtain a fresh start without surrendering the lifestyle that created the danger. His new name was therefore part of an active strategy for controlling how other people connected a face to a known record.

Names have material consequences in the Star Wars underworld. Bounty contracts, shipping transactions and security records rely on identifiers. A fugitive can exploit weak connections between those records while a hunter tries to establish that the new person is in fact the old target. Gault's story is a useful example of the political importance of documentation.

He was not simply someone who made one false claim and retired. The original account presents repeated narrow escapes, rising debt and paranoia. This distinguishes the immediate rewards of fraud from its cumulative costs. Each successful escape increases the number of people who wish to find him.

A Tatooine bounty that becomes a partnership

The Bounty Hunter encounters Gault during an assignment on Tatooine. The situation is unusual because the protagonist's profession normally requires satisfying the client who issued a contract, while Gault's experience allows him to propose alternative ways to make a situation appear resolved.

His recruitment shows the limits of simple categories such as reliable companion and untrustworthy fugitive. The Bounty Hunter may have a practical reason to retain a skilled manipulator who knows the networks through which targets disappear. That reason does not erase the danger of trusting someone whose livelihood has relied on deception.

Once aboard the D5-Mantis, Gault's methods contrast with Mako's technical investigations and Torian's Mandalorian emphasis on honor. The diversity of the crew is not merely decorative. Their different attitudes toward obligations make the Bounty Hunter's work a negotiation between potentially conflicting ethical frameworks.

From a con artist to a wartime profiteer

Gault returns prominently in the Eternal Empire era. BioWare's official Eternal Throne character biographies identify Vette as his partner in a scheme to steal the enormous wealth accumulated by Zakuul's government. Their plan draws them into the Outlander's Alliance and presents theft as a weapon against a regime waging war across the galaxy.

This later story develops his original interests rather than replacing them. He is still concerned with wealth and deception, but the scale changes from personal creditors to imperial assets. A scheme that would once have served private survival becomes part of a coordinated operation against a government.

The relationship with Vette also shows different histories converging. She escaped enslavement and acquired experience as a pirate and treasure hunter, while Gault survived his own network of dangerous contracts. Their shared project demonstrates how two people with different motives and pasts can collaborate without becoming identical in values.

The costs of charm and the problem of trust

Gault's charm is part of his method, not evidence that everyone around him has consented to be deceived. The Holonet lists greed, indulgence and solving problems indirectly among his preferences. It also identifies his dislike of fair fights and rules. These are characterization clues from publisher material, not reasons to assume that every possible deception is justified.

The player may find his conversations funny, but humor does not eliminate the material loss caused by fraud. A useful dossier can hold these together: a person who is entertaining within a story may also be responsible for manipulating others. Treating him as simply an irredeemable criminal would likewise miss the political uses his skills acquire in the later war.

His old weapon and crew-skill details are historical game metadata. They should not be confused with current companion combat roles or offered as a patch-specific gearing guide.

What this history reveals

Gault's aliases connect identity to administrative legibility. The same person can appear as separate entries across bounty registers and security files when the link between a name and a body is deliberately obscured. This matters because law enforcement, debt collection and mercenary contracts act on recorded identities.

His career demonstrates the difference between reputation and trustworthiness. A con artist can cultivate an impressive reputation for cleverness while making himself unsafe to rely upon in particular transactions. Trust is a relationship grounded in evidence, conduct and enforcement, not charisma alone.

The move from individual fraud to the Alliance's wealth theft also raises an institutional question. The meaning of stealing is affected by the setting, purpose and target. Those factors can change the political interpretation of the act without proving that every method of obtaining money is ethically acceptable.

Devaronian identity should remain analytically distinct from his conduct. Assigning greed or deceit to his species would reproduce a stereotype rather than explain how he learned to manipulate particular markets and institutions.

The social-science interpretation applies to fictional institutions. It is not a publisher claim about authorial intent, and it should not be treated as an account of real communities.
