The lightsaber pike is one of the clearest cases where weapon configuration is tied to institutional office. Jedi Temple Guards carry distinctive yellow double-ended pikes as part of an anonymous security role. The object therefore marks a duty rather than the personal identity usually emphasized by individually built Jedi lightsabers.

Why did it emerge?
StarWars.com describes the Temple Guard pike as similar to a double-bladed lightsaber, with blades at the ends of a staff. Its importance comes from context: the guards are a formal security institution inside the Jedi Temple. A specialized weapon helps separate ceremonial service and controlled-space defense from ordinary field practice.
