A retired commander returns with a plan

As the New Republic recovered from the loss of Coruscant, Admiral Gial Ackbar devised a trap in the Deep Core. The abandoned mining operations on the moon Ebaq 9 and its difficult hyperlanes provided a way to lure an enemy fleet into a confined area.

The invaders pursue an apparent opportunity

Yuuzhan Vong commanders attacked what appeared to be a vulnerable Republic position. The trap allowed New Republic forces to apply concentrated firepower against enemy ships and turn the battle into one of the war's most important reversals.

The death of Tsavong Lah and Vergere

Jaina Solo killed Warmaster Tsavong Lah during the fighting, removing one of the invasion's leading military figures. Vergere sacrificed herself, destroying hostile forces and helping save Jacen. These deaths altered both the Yuuzhan Vong command system and the Solo family's understanding of the war.

A turning point in governmental reconstruction

The victory supported calls for a stronger collective war effort. Cal Omas helped move the battered New Republic toward the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, usually called the Galactic Alliance, a government better equipped to coordinate the surviving member worlds.

Anthropological assessment

Ebaq 9 illustrates how geography and abandoned infrastructure can be transformed into military advantage. Its political aftermath matters as much as its tactics: one victory helped make constitutional reconstruction seem possible during an existential crisis.
