The Herglic Trade Empire joins the Galactic Republic

The Herglic political and commercial sphere centered on Giju enters the Galactic Republic, helping open the Hidakai Pool and integrating an old non-Human trading civilization into Republic networks.

Around 13,000 BBY, the Herglic Trade Empire joined the Galactic Republic. For the Herglics of Giju, accession connected an old trading civilization to a much larger political order. The event also helped stimulate development of the Hidakai Pool, an ancient hyperlane through Herglic Space that later became part of a much wider commercial geography.

Joining an already ancient Republic

By 13,000 BBY, the Galactic Republic had existed for roughly twelve thousand years. Herglic accession therefore did not occur during the state's founding phase.

It was part of the continuing incorporation of regional powers, trade networks, and species into an expanding political system.

Giju and Herglic Space

Giju was the aquatic Herglic homeworld and the center of a region containing dozens of Herglic-associated systems. Its economy later remained heavily tied to manufacturing and space transport.

Political accession brought that regional network into formal relationship with the Republic without erasing Giju's role as a cultural center.

An older imperial legacy

The Herglics had developed hyperdrive and colonized nearby space long before joining the Republic. Their ancient trading empire had already risen and collapsed.

Republic membership was therefore not the beginning of Herglic interstellar civilization. It was a new institutional phase for a society with its own deep history.

The Hidakai Pool develops

After accession, the Hidakai Pool began to develop as an important route running from Daupherm through Giju toward Yag'Dhul. Herglic and Givin navigators contributed to this network.

Later route-building connected the region to the Rimma Trade Route, turning Herglic Space into part of one of the galaxy's major commercial corridors.

Commercial integration

Herglic freighters and merchants became increasingly familiar in wider galactic space. Political membership reduced institutional distance while trade created everyday contact.

For many travelers, the Republic was encountered not through the Senate but through ports, cargo contracts, navigators, and commercial communities.

Integration without disappearance

Herglics retained Herglese, their species identity, Giju-centered communities, and practical commercial traditions.

The Republic was a layered political system. Membership could coexist with strong regional and species identities.

Tapani contact comes later

In 12,720 BBY, Herglics made contact and began trading with Human colonists entering the nearby Tapani region. That event occurred after the Herglics were already associated with the Republic in later reference chronology.

Older fan timelines sometimes merge the two developments. IDS keeps them separate.

Anthropological assessment

Herglic accession demonstrates that Republic expansion was not simply colonization of less developed worlds. The Republic could incorporate preexisting regional powers with older histories, technologies, and commercial systems of their own.

The event also shows how political integration and route development reinforce one another. Membership makes trade easier; growing trade makes political membership materially meaningful.

Republic membership and a vanished trading empire are different claims

By approximately 13,000 BBY, the Herglics and their regional commercial power had joined the Galactic Republic. That institutional transition is not the same event as the older collapse of the Herglic Trade Empire. Later chroniclers may use the same regional name for different configurations of authority over time. The use of an imperial label should not be allowed to erase the distinction between an earlier independent network and later Republic participation.

Integration could give established merchants access to additional routes and political institutions while still leaving existing Herglic practices and identities intact. The Hidakai Pool corridor developed importance in that context. But the approximate accession date does not prove the precise founding moment of every hyperlane branch, customs office or Senate position associated with Herglic Space.

The event also precedes the Human colonists' arrival in the future Tapani sector in 12,720 BBY. That later encounter needs its own entry because contacts between different communities cannot be collapsed into an imagined one-day birth of the entire regional economy. The political history of Giju and the migration story of Pelagon have related consequences but distinct time markers.

Test the evidence: Was Republic membership around 13,000 BBY the same thing as the older empire's conjectured collapse?

Explanation: No. An earlier imperial collapse and later incorporation into Republic institutions are separate episodes.
