Political marriage is offered as a diplomatic bargain

In 8 ABY the New Republic continued to struggle with Imperial warlords, including Warlord Zsinj and his powerful ship Iron Fist. The Hapes Consortium sought closer relations with the Republic and Prince Isolder proposed marriage to Leia Organa. For Leia, the proposal had implications well beyond personal feeling: the Hapan fleet and wealth could provide military support and political legitimacy for a government still emerging from rebellion.

Han violates Leia's freedom to choose

Han Solo became jealous of the proposal and reacted disastrously by taking Leia away against her will, using a Gun of Command to compel her. Later chapters of the novel move the characters toward reconciliation, but the abduction remains a coercive act rather than a harmless romantic gesture. Han took Leia aboard the Millennium Falcon to Dathomir, a world he had mistakenly acquired and hoped to offer as an alternative future for Alderaanian refugees.

Dathomiri societies and the Nightsisters

On Dathomir the travelers encountered multiple traditions associated with women who used the Force, including the Singing Mountain Clan and Nightsisters led by Gethzerion. Their relationships were not identical to the Jedi Order's rules. Warlord Zsinj used armed control and an orbital system to threaten the world, placing its communities at the center of a conflict between rival outside powers.

The warlord's defeat

Han, Leia, Luke, Isolder and their allies contributed to an operation in which Zsinj's flagship Iron Fist was disabled and the warlord was killed. The victory ended an important Imperial splinter state's immediate threat, but not the entire war between the Republic and the remaining Imperial forces.

A public wedding follows

Six weeks after the Battle of Dathomir, Han and Leia married at Cantham House on Coruscant, with Mon Mothma officiating. Their wedding was a public event broadcast throughout the New Republic. The event records the founding of a family whose members would later play central roles in the Legends continuation.

Anthropological assessment

The novel juxtaposes marriage as diplomacy, as individual commitment, and as a coercive problem when one person refuses another's autonomy. The formal royal proposal and the illegal abduction expose the danger of treating relationships as instruments of political bargaining. Dathomir's clans also show how outsiders' understandings of 'witches' and Force practice may fail to capture local religious organization.

Published evidence and limits

The publisher identifies a Hapes diplomatic marriage proposal and confirms Han tricks Leia into traveling with him to Dathomir. That coercive act must not be described as unqualified consent. The summary does not independently establish all details of Zsinj's defeat. The book also portrays multiple Dathomiri groups, which should not be collapsed into one cultural identity.
