Republic scouts discover the Quermian system

Republic explorers encounter Quermian colonies spread across multiple worlds; within decades, the genetically engineered species becomes active in galactic society.

In 7000 BBY, Galactic Republic scouts discovered the Quermian system and encountered Quermians settled across several worlds. The species had been genetically engineered by Arkanian scientists from Xexto stock thousands of years earlier. Within a few decades of renewed contact, Quermians became active participants in the wider galactic community.

A species created long before discovery

Arkanian scientists had produced the Quermians from Xexto genetic material around 17,000 BBY.

The people encountered in 7000 BBY therefore possessed thousands of years of independent history.

A multiworld Quermian society

Republic scouts found Quermians established on multiple worlds rather than isolated to one planet.

Their distribution indicates interplanetary movement before this particular Republic encounter.

Rapid participation in galactic life

Within decades, Quermians became familiar participants in broader galactic institutions.

Contact changed the scale of interaction without creating Quermian society from nothing.

Anthropological assessment

The Quermian case complicates simple categories such as natural species, colony population, and first contact. They were genetically created, socially autonomous, and already spread across worlds when Republic scouts arrived.

Their history also shows that the consequences of ancient scientific experimentation can become independent cultures whose later identity is not reducible to the intentions of their creators.

Evidence and chronology

Legends places Republic contact with the Quermian system around 7000 BBY. By then Quermians had established communities on more than one world. Their origins lay in an earlier Arkanian experiment: around 17,000 BBY, Xexto from Troiken had been transplanted and altered on terraformed Quermia. Contact with Republic scouts is therefore not the birth of the species or the start of its civilization.

Anthropological interpretation

The word discovery records an outsider's new information, not the first inhabitant's arrival. The Quermians already had philosophical traditions, settlements and histories. Describing the system as discovered without naming whose records changed would make its established population invisible and reproduce the viewpoint of Republic mapmakers alone.

What the sources do not establish

Republic charting in 7000 BBY and the dated 6900 BBY accession are separate events. The sources do not name an individual scout, a first landing site or a Republic-backed census of each Quermian colony. The Arkanian experiment is Legends-specific.

Test the record: Was Quermia uninhabited when Republic scouts recorded it?

Explanation: No. Quermian societies had existed for millennia. The 7000 BBY entry dates a Republic encounter.
