The New Jedi Order's Hidden Temple on Taivas was meant to keep survivors safe after the Massacre at Ossus. In 138 ABY its location became known to Darth Krayt's forces. The Sith Empire attacked the sanctuary, but the Jedi and their allies evacuated the mobile temple and surviving fleets, at terrible personal and military cost.
A sanctuary built from displacement
The Hidden Temple grew from ships and salvage, making refuge itself an example of material adaptation. Its community included Jedi who had survived years of persecution. The location was an operational secret because secrecy offered protection where ordinary legal status no longer could. In 127 ABY the Jedi prepared this sanctuary, but by 138 ABY its existence had become part of a much larger conflict among the Sith Empire, the Empire-in-exile and the Galactic Alliance Remnant.
The secret breaks under coercion
The Sith learned the temple's location after the captured Imperial Knight Antares Draco was tortured and deceived about the fate of Marasiah Fel. He revealed the information, and Darth Talon helped bring it to Krayt. When Cade Skywalker learned of the breach, he warned the Jedi. The story depicts the dangers of extracting strategic intelligence through psychological violence. Blaming only the prisoner would conceal the responsibility of those who engineered his coercion.
Defense becomes a coalition operation
The Jedi leaders and their allies debated whether to flee immediately or confront the arriving force. Cade advocated a stand in which the attacking Sith-Imperial armada would be caught between defenders at Taivas and allied fleets. Gar Stazi's Galactic Alliance Remnant and Fel loyalists committed vessels. The plan initially damaged Krayt's forces, demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated opponents who had not always shared the same interests.
Krayt reveals the Sith troopers
Krayt answered with a hidden force of altered Sith troopers and specialized starfighters. These troops attacked enemies with extreme aggression and even killed some of their own side's personnel. Their deployment destroyed the defenders' prospect of a clean victory. The new weapons were not simply ordinary stormtroopers in different armor: they represented Krayt's attempt to bind combat power directly to the authority of the Sith and eliminate the possibility of independent military judgment.
The temple survives by moving
The temple's ship-built structure allowed evacuation. As the battle turned, the Jedi and accompanying forces fled Taivas. Nat Skywalker, also known as Bantha Rawk, and T'ra Saa made a final stand that enabled the escape, dying in the process. The result should be described carefully: the Sith achieved a limited tactical success and inflicted heavy losses, but failed to exterminate the Jedi or destroy the withdrawing allied fleets. The Jedi refuge survived through mobility, not through a conventional territorial victory.
Consequences for the war
The encounter revealed new details about Krayt's secret army and accelerated the path to the 138 ABY Battle of Coruscant. Cade and his allies were confronted with the cost of remaining loyal to endangered communities. Some Imperial personnel rejected the Sith commanders' conduct and defected. The following Coruscant confrontation and creation of the Galactic Federation Triumvirate are connected consequences, but they are separate episodes and retain separate timeline pages.
Anthropological assessment: refuge and political membership
The Hidden Temple represented community organized around shared risk rather than control of a territory. Its movable structure offered shelter to people whose former institutions could no longer guarantee safety. A competing empire sought to define the same community as an existential enemy and justify the destruction of its sanctuary. This account is therefore about displacement, coerced intelligence, intergroup solidarity and the political production of a target population.
Publication and limits
Legacy—War #4 and #5 provide the principal story. A cover from issue #4 appears above, clearly marked as published comics art. The account does not invent a count of refugees or claim that every Jedi survived. It distinguishes the temple's survival as an evacuation from the deaths and losses endured during the retreat.
