IG-11

An assassin droid rebuilt and retrained as a nurse droid whose changing programming makes care, learned behavior, autonomy, and social trust central to his story.

IG-11 begins as an assassin droid working under Bounty Hunters Guild protocols and receives the same target as Din Djarin: the child later known as Grogu. His initial behavior follows occupational programming with little room for negotiation.

Din destroys IG-11 to protect Grogu, but Kuiil later repairs the droid and patiently retrains him. The rebuilt machine learns new routines centered on care, service, and protection rather than contract killing.

Kuiil’s work with IG-11 matters because the droid’s transformation is not presented as a simple hardware replacement. Repetition, instruction, correction, and trust alter what the same mechanical body does in the world.

IG-11 eventually protects Grogu and the group escaping Moff Gideon’s forces on Nevarro. He sacrifices himself to clear a path through Imperial troops, acting in accordance with the protective role he learned after reconstruction.

Later New Republic-era events reuse IG-series technology and parts, but the original IG-11 story remains distinctive because it makes droid behavior visibly social as well as technical.
