01 · Orientation
Summary
Kashyyyk is the Wookiee homeworld, a technologically sophisticated forest society whose strategic location and population made it a major battlefield and later a target of brutal Imperial occupation and forced labor.
02 · Place
Environment and settlement
Enormous wroshyr trees define much of Kashyyyk's inhabited landscape. Wookiee settlements use elevated architecture, platforms, waterways, and technology integrated into the forest rather than replacing it.
03 · Society
People and culture
Wookiee communities are associated with strong family ties, loyalty, long memory, craft traditions, and sophisticated engineering. Outsiders sometimes mistake the forest setting for technological simplicity, but Wookiee society combines advanced tools with deep environmental adaptation.
04 · Religion & worldview
Sacred landscape, belief, and moral order
Wookiee worldview is strongly tied to family, long memory, place, and the immense forest environment. Current canon gives less systematic detail about formal Wookiee religion than older material did, so IDS emphasizes documented relationships to community and landscape rather than importing Legends theology unmarked.
05 · Institutions
Politics and power
Kashyyyk aligned with the Republic during the Clone Wars. The Empire later occupied the planet and enslaved many Wookiees, turning population control and forced labor into central features of Imperial rule.
06 · Change over time
Historical significance
One of the final battles of the Clone Wars took place on Kashyyyk, where Yoda fought alongside Wookiee and clone forces before Order 66. Imperial conquest followed, producing repeated resistance and violent reprisals.
