The site demonstrates how abandoned civilian or industrial infrastructure can be repurposed by insurgent movements. Bail Organa supported an early Rebel outpost there, while Leia later preserved the coordinates as an emergency refuge.

Historical significance
The Rebel Alliance used the former mining installation before abandoning it when Imperial patrol patterns changed. Decades later, the Resistance fled to the old base and faced a First Order assault while Luke Skywalker created time for the survivors to escape.
