DOCUMENTED HISTORIC THREE
Mon Mothma / Cara Dune / Kyle Katarn
The archived January 2026 three-versus-three table includes this precise defense and General Veers, Admiral Piett and Dark Trooper as an attacking trio. Use it as a research candidate, not an automatic win recommendation.
MODERN CAUTION
Luthen, a Rebel Commander or a new Datacron
Current Mon Mothma can summon a Rebel Commander when Luthen Rael is allied. Luthen introduces additional Grand Arena ability effects. A newer defense with changed partners may function very differently from the Cara/Kyle record. Scout it separately.
Do not substitute a format. This page explains a three-character battle. A five-character Grand Arena team requires separate five-versus-five evidence.
02 / ATTACKING FORMATION
Three Imperial Troopers and their roles
01General VeersLeader; Turn Meter on buffs
02Admiral PiettThe Emperor's Trap; Marked setup
03Dark TrooperStack-based finishing damage
General Veers must lead to provide Imperial Assault Commander's Turn Meter benefits. Piett supplies The Emperor's Trap and a Marked decision. Dark Trooper deals multi-hit damage based on the number of surviving Squad stacks, not its ordinary turn count. Death Trooper is a different unit and cannot be substituted without testing.

03 / ABILITY-VERIFIED MECHANICS
What makes the Imperial Troopers function?
GENERAL VEERS / LEADER
Imperial Assault Commander
Empire allies gain 30% Offense. Imperial Trooper allies gain 20 Speed and 10% Turn Meter when they gain a buff. A successful buff sequence accelerates the trio; an early enemy interruption can stop it.
GENERAL VEERS / UNIQUE
Aggressive Tactician
With the required upgrades and Veers still active, defeating an enemy grants Imperial Troopers Offense Up, 50% Turn Meter and 10% Protection recovery. The first reliable elimination matters more than scattered damage.
ADMIRAL PIETT / UNIQUE
The Emperor's Trap
Empire ally turns and attacks outside their turns add Trap stacks, granting 6% Offense and Potency per stack. These stacks expire when an enemy or non-Empire ally takes a turn. They are not permanent stacking damage.
DARK TROOPER / UNIQUE
Dark Trooper Squad
Dark Trooper begins with four Squad stacks and its Basic strikes once per remaining stack. If it would be defeated while more than one stack remains, it instead loses one stack and restores Health and Protection, reducing its offensive potential.
Read Piett's Marked choice before using it.
Imperial Ambition gives Offense Up while marking another Empire ally with Inevitable Failure. Marked can direct the enemy toward that unit. Do not blindly Mark your Dark Trooper if incoming damage will strip the stacks needed to finish.

TACTICAL DECISION 1
Identify Mon Mothma's partners
The January 2026 record specifically features Mon Mothma, Cara Dune and Kyle Katarn. Check those three before treating Veers as a candidate.
If the fight changes: A Luthen Rael variant adds a Rebel Commander and newer GAC effects; do not assume an equivalent result.
Tempo / 2 OF 4
TACTICAL DECISION 2
Secure the Trooper opening
Veers's leader grants Imperial Troopers 20 Speed and 10% Turn Meter whenever they gain a buff. An early action is critical to building the engine.
If the fight changes: If Piett or Veers is controlled before buffs flow, switch from the assumed sequence to survival.
Engine / 3 OF 4
TACTICAL DECISION 3
Choose Piett's Marked target
Piett's The Emperor's Trap adds 6% Offense and Potency per stack as Empire allies begin turns or attack out of turn. Imperial Ambition also Marks an ally.
If the fight changes: Do not blindly Mark Dark Trooper: it redirects pressure and can cost damage stacks.
Finish / 4 OF 4
TACTICAL DECISION 4
Protect Dark Trooper's stacks
Dark Trooper's Basic attacks once for each remaining Squad stack; the four initial stacks are key to damage.
If the fight changes: A stack lost absorbing lethal damage reduces the unit's immediate finishing power.
04 / CONDITIONAL SIX-STEP ATTACK
Reason through the opening and first elimination
This is not a guaranteed move order. The actual turn sequence depends on mods, upgrades and current enemy control.
01
Confirm the historical trio
Look for Mon Mothma, Cara Dune and Kyle Katarn. The archived counter is 3v3, not 5v5 and not a general answer to every Mothma defense.
02
Compare actual starting Speed
Veers supplies a leader Speed bonus, but speed order still depends on mods, character investments and enemy modifiers. A first-turn control effect can stop the plan.
03
Use Piett's opening cautiously
Imperial Ambition grants Offense Up and gives a chosen Empire ally Marked with Inevitable Failure. Balance the Offense benefit against putting a unit under concentrated attack.
04
Keep the buff-and-turn engine moving
Each new buff supplies Turn Meter through Veers; Piett's The Emperor's Trap builds Offense while Empire turns continue. Enemy actions interrupt those Trap stacks.
05
Earn a real first elimination
Dark Trooper hits once per surviving Squad stack. After an enemy defeat, an upgraded Veers Unique grants Imperial Troopers Offense Up, 50% Turn Meter and 10% Protection recovery.
06
Recheck Mon Mothma's revive and promotion
Field Promotion can summon or promote a Rebel Trooper; if Luthen is present, it instead summons a Rebel Commander. Restore Our Republic revives a Rebel Fighter. Those mechanics can change the target sequence.
Adapt when the battle diverges: Reassess Mon Mothma's summoned Trooper, possible Rebel Fighter revives, Piett's Marked status and Dark Trooper's remaining stacks. If enemy opening control prevents the Turn Meter loop, the historic result is no longer a usable script.

What stopped the Trooper engine?
Select the first problem you observed. This tool does not read your roster or battle log.
Luthen Rael is on the enemy team
Luthen changes Mothma's summon and provides GAC-specific bonuses. This is a distinct counter scenario, not the historical Mon Mothma/Cara/Kyle defense.
My Troopers are controlled before Piett acts
Compare mods, speed and debuff sources. Veers's leader loop cannot build if allies do not gain their expected buffs or turns.
Dark Trooper loses too many Squad stacks
The unit loses a stack rather than being defeated while multiple stacks remain. Fewer stacks also means fewer Basic hits and less finishing damage.
Mon Mothma revives a Rebel Fighter
Her Restore Our Republic Special can revive a random Rebel Fighter, equalize Health and rally the team. Plan a real elimination and follow-up, not scattered damage.
I brought this 3v3 plan into 5v5
A five-unit defense has two additional characters, different targeting and different data. Review an actual 5v5 record rather than transposing three-unit results.
