Historical narrative and evidence
Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders invaded Iridonia in 3963 BBY after attacking Zabrak colonies in the surrounding region. Zabrak and Republic defenders fought them, but the first battle ended in a Mandalorian victory. The result did not last. A later counterattack in the same year reversed the occupation.
The homeworld follows attacks on the colonies
The sequence matters politically. Violence against outlying Zabrak communities was followed by an attack on Iridonia itself. That made the campaign a threat to a wider social network rather than a dispute over one isolated system.
It also created strong incentives for Zabrak military forces to cooperate with the Republic. The later victories at Iridonia and Ithor would depend on that regional participation.
A victory that immediately produces resistance
The first Mandalorian success did not settle control. Instead, it became the prelude to a counterattack. This is a reminder that occupying a world and establishing durable political authority are different tasks.
Anthropological assessment
Iridonia shows how warfare can strengthen identities and alliances that an invader may have hoped to fragment. Attacks on colonies and a homeworld can create a shared sense of threat across communities with different local interests.
The battle also reveals the limits of territorial maps. A color change can show who won a battle, but it cannot show whether the population accepts occupation or whether neighboring groups are organizing to reverse it.
Evidence check
What is firmly established?
The date or range, continuity, broad combatants, outcome, and campaign placement are included only where the sources below support them.
What has IDS deliberately not invented?
Unnamed commanders, exact force sizes, casualty totals, tactical phases, dialogue, and civilian experiences remain unknown unless a cited source establishes them.
Why use a schematic?
The visual is an original IDS reconstruction used where verified event-specific artwork is unavailable or rights status is unclear. It is labeled so it cannot be mistaken for canonical scene art.

Iridonia: one invasion, then a separate liberation
The first stage ends in Mandalorian success
Early in the invasion, Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders struck at the Zabrak colonies and at Iridonia itself. Legends campaign histories record a Mandalorian victory in the first clash. They also record a later reversal after Republic forces counterattacked with Zabrak military support. It is important not to smooth this into a simple story of uninterrupted Republic defense. The first event's outcome can remain true even though the world was later liberated.
The northern counterattack affects the wider front
A retrospective account attributed to military historian Vilnau Teupt in The Essential Guide to Warfare links Republic victories at Iridonia and Ithor. Those gains prevented a Mandalorian pincer toward Coruscant and helped keep a reinforcement route open to Taris. This conclusion concerns a network of contested systems and military corridors. It does not imply that every Mandalorian recruit immediately abandoned Iridonian society or that all local communities supported the same side.
What the archive can responsibly reconstruct
The original source trail establishes broad location, date, combatants and the sequence from defeat to later victory. It does not provide a reliable casualty count for this first engagement, an exhaustive list of commanders or a street-by-street record of combat. Iridonia's inhabitants included people with varied allegiances and positions. Treating a species as a single political faction would hide the role of local military units, occupation and the subsequent contested settlement.
Test your historical judgment: Does the later Republic victory mean the first Mandalorian invasion failed?
Evidence-based explanation: No. The initial Mandalorian victory and the later Republic and Zabrak counterattack are separate military outcomes in the same broad 3963 BBY campaign.
Original publication trail: Original publisher's Essential Atlas record · Subsequent liberation of Iridonia. Original issue or reference-book text governs exact events; a catalog or writer note does not establish an undocumented casualty count.
