The Jedi establish a training enclave on Mustafar

Long before Mustafar becomes a volcanic hellscape, Jedi establish training facilities on the lush world and Master Chu-Gon Dar studies extraordinary manipulation of physical matter.

In 5300 BBY, the Jedi Order established a training center on Mustafar. In this Legends period the environment and political history preceded the catastrophic transformation around 3996 BBY and should not be mistaken for the lava landscape visited by Darth Vader millennia later. Jedi Master Chu-Gon Dar taught there and became famous for mastery of the Physical Force and creation of a Force-sensitive cube capable of altering material properties.

Mustafar before the lava world

Ancient Mustafar was not yet the landscape seen in Revenge of the Sith.

Later catastrophe transformed the planet's climate and geology.

Chu-Gon Dar

Dar studied physical manipulation through the Force.

His cube represented a material technology or artifact integrated with Force practice.

Anthropological assessment

The Mustafar enclave demonstrates that planetary identities change radically over deep time.

It also shows the Jedi as experimental teachers and researchers, not only peacekeepers or warriors.

Published evidence

Legends references place a Jedi training center on Mustafar around 5300 BBY. Jedi Master Chu-Gon Dar studied the Physical Force and created the cube that could change an object's properties when used with Force power. Later Mustafar history describes a cataclysmic Sith–Jedi clash around 3996 BBY that altered the world's orbit and environment.

Culture and power

A Jedi academy is a material and institutional system: it requires teachers, living spaces, equipment and an environment that can support students. Later volcanic imagery from the films can obscure the fact that older accounts describe different environmental conditions. The academy should be interpreted in relation to the planet's earlier ecology, not retrofitted to Darth Vader's later industrial lava world.

Dating and continuity limits

This date is Legends, and the destructive event occurs far later, not during the enclave's establishment. The original game sources and reference accounts use varying renderings of Chu-Gon Dar's name; the reference-specific version should be preserved. The exact enrollment size and complete floorplan are unknown.

Historical judgment: Was the 5300 BBY Jedi enclave built on a Mustafar already devastated by the 3996 BBY event?

Correction and explanation: No. The enclave precedes the Legends cataclysm and is part of a much older Mustafar environment.
