A ruined homeworld attracts a new exploiter

After the genocidal campaign against the Mon Calamari, Dac's damaged homeworld and abandoned orbital shipyards remained vulnerable. Darth Luft and a pirate organization gained control of the shipyards. They announced that a reconstruction effort was underway and used that claim to entice Mon Calamari and Quarren refugees back to the system. The appeal was targeted at people whose desire to recover a homeland was shaped by displacement. The supposed return program did not provide genuine resettlement.

Shipbuilding under coercion

The pirates forced the refugees to build vessels for a new fleet. Relatives and children were detained to ensure obedience, and captors threatened lethal consequences for disobedience. The facts distinguish the situation from an ordinary labor contract. Workers could not freely leave, negotiate or refuse. The pirates exploited family attachment and the loss of alternative homes. This form of coercion connected industrial production directly to hostage-taking.

Ania Solo and Jao Assam investigate

Ania Solo and Imperial Knight Jao Assam reached the poisoned Mon Calamari system while searching for Darth Wredd. Pirate droids disabled their transport and the pair were pulled into the shipyards. After escaping their immediate captors, they discovered the forced-labor operation. Workers named Luen and Tikin explained the deception and its consequences. Jao used an Imperial communications droid to relay a warning to the newly formed Galactic Federation Triumvirate. A private search for one Sith Lord had become an appeal for a broader rescue.

The Triumvirate responds

Admiral Gar Stazi and Imperial Knight Master Yalta Val participated in the intervention. Allied forces engaged pirate ships and entered the station while refugees fought their captors. The rescue required coordinated attention to outer defenses, the people imprisoned inside and the ability to maintain survivable conditions in the facility. A military victory that left hostages exposed to space would have failed its humanitarian objective. The comic emphasizes that Ania and her companions acted to protect imprisoned families even under direct threat.

Stazi turns the shipyard environment against the pirates

The tanker Trand Cappa flooded the shipyards, allowing Mon Calamari and Quarren workers to use their adaptation to aquatic environments against pirates whose authority relied on weapons and control of dry industrial spaces. A threatened release of hostage families into space was stopped when an allied droid helped close the doors. Changing the physical environment helped transform the station from a prison and factory into a possible refuge for former slaves.

Jao defeats Darth Luft

Jao fought Darth Luft in the flooded complex. The Sith initially gained the advantage and endangered Imperial Knight cadets, but Jao eventually killed him. The pirate network was defeated and its captives liberated. The surviving Mon Calamari and Quarren settled into the flooded shipyards. Their return to an aquatic setting created a limited form of recovery, although it did not reverse the destruction of Dac's wider ecosystems or replace every aspect of the homeland they had lost.

The pursuit of Darth Wredd continues

Jao did not simply return to standard Imperial Knight service after the rescue. His hunt for Wredd continued, and the rogue Sith later communicated that Luft's downfall had assisted his own scheme. This is significant for sequence: the shipyard liberation occurred during Wredd's broader insurgency after the formation of the Galactic Federation Triumvirate. It cannot be folded into the earlier 137 ABY evacuation of Dac, which arose during Krayt's persecution of the population.

Anthropological assessment and dating

Darth Luft's conspiracy shows how promises of renewal can be exploited when communities are displaced. The political authority of a new Triumvirate depended partly on whether it could protect survivors from predatory armed groups. Published issues #8–10 of Star Wars: Legacy (2013) cover the story; their in-universe placement is around 138 ABY. The site labels this approximate placement and does not fabricate a census, full compensation program or later restoration of Dac. The displayed artwork is genuine comic cover art.
