Jebble's success as a Mandalorian staging base created the conditions for its destruction. Pulsipher brought the ancient Muur Talisman to the Ice Citadel, unaware of its full power. The artifact transformed Mandalorian recruits into intelligent, weapon-using rakghouls under its influence. Zayne Carrick warned Cassus Fett before more transports arrived. Fett chose orbital sterilization, destroying the base, infected forces, and remaining surface life.

THE JEBBLE CATASTROPHE
Event sequence and source limits
During the Jebble staging operation, Pulsipher brought the ancient Muur Talisman to the Ice Citadel. Its Force-linked influence caused Mandalorian personnel to transform into rakghouls and threatened to spread beyond the base. Zayne Carrick attempted to warn Cassus Fett, who ordered an orbital strike that destroyed the installation and infected forces. Celeste Morne was preserved in a sealed underground setting, connecting the tale to events thousands of years afterward in the Vector crossover. The orbital attack should not be described as proof that the artifact had been conclusively destroyed.
People, technology and institutions
Jebble illustrates dangerous interpretations of ancient artifacts in a militarized institution. A supposed object of power became the source of a mass emergency because soldiers and technical personnel were concentrated nearby. Cassus Fett’s containment decision also inflicted destructive force upon his own forces. The imagined rakghoul transformation is a supernatural Legends plot device, not a valid epidemiological mechanism. The archive separates the fictional source claim from ethical analysis of emergency power.

An archaeological object becomes a biological weapon
The Muur Talisman was not dangerous merely because people believed in it. It directly created and controlled rakghouls, linking ancient Sith technology to a living epidemic.
Pulsipher's desire to understand Force artifacts without adequate knowledge turned collection into catastrophe.
The staging base amplifies the outbreak
Thousands of recruits were concentrated on Jebble for an Alderaan campaign. Dense military assembly allowed infection and transformation to spread through a population already organized for movement.
The exact infrastructure that made Jebble an efficient base made containment harder once the threat emerged.
Cassus Fett chooses planetary sterilization
Fett treated the infected world as a strategic contagion risk. Instead of rescue or local containment, he ordered nuclear bombardment designed to eliminate all surface life.
The decision prevented a Mandalorian rakghoul army from spreading, but it did so by declaring everyone in the zone expendable.
Containment creates a four-thousand-year survivor
Celeste Morne agreed to enter Dreypa's Oubliette to contain the Talisman and the spirit of Karness Muur. The device shielded her from both the bombardment and time.
A local emergency decision thus generated an artifact and survivor whose history extended into the Imperial and Legacy eras.

Why could the rakghouls use weapons?
The Muur Talisman's influence produced Mando-Raks that retained more organized capability than ordinary plague victims, making the outbreak especially dangerous to a military staging base.
Was destroying Jebble the only possible option?
The story presents Fett's choice as rapid military containment under extreme risk. It does not establish that every alternative had been exhausted, which is why IDS treats the decision as ethically consequential rather than automatically necessary.
Anthropological assessment
Jebble is a case of emergency governance at its most extreme. Once a population is classified as an uncontrollable contagion, ordinary distinctions among infected, uninfected, soldier, prisoner, and civilian can collapse.
The disaster also shows why artifact collection is never culturally neutral in Star Wars. Objects can contain agencies, histories, and risks that exceed the categories of the people who acquire them.
How an artifact turned a base into a catastrophe
The Muur Talisman was not a harmless ceremonial relic. Once brought to Jebble it could transform living beings into rakghouls and manipulate the resulting creatures. The outbreak spread through a heavily occupied Mandalorian base. This linked the modern military campaign to an ancient Sith technology that its new custodians did not understand. Zayne Carrick's warning to Cassus Fett matters because the threat could otherwise have reached additional troop transports and other worlds.
A crisis of evidence and command
Military commanders were accustomed to assessing enemy troops, fleets and fortifications. Rakghoul transformation broke the assumptions of ordinary battle planning. Those who appeared to be their own soldiers might no longer respond as expected. Fett adopted the most extreme form of containment: planetary sterilization. The decision made everyone remaining on the surface a casualty of a larger strategy against contagion, rather than trying to distinguish every victim from every threat.
The object survives the attempt to destroy it
Celeste Morne and the Muur Talisman survived within Dreypa's Oubliette. This detail is central to the story's future timeline, because the artifact became a bridge connecting several comic periods rather than an object destroyed with Jebble. Preservation itself becomes ethically difficult when the object continues to expose later communities to a living danger.

Did Fett's bombardment remove the Talisman from galactic history?
No. Celeste Morne was sealed with the artifact in Dreypa's Oubliette, allowing the threat to survive and reappear in the later Vector crossover.

The Jebble catastrophe: an occupation turned into a disaster
A camp becomes a transmission risk
Jebble had become an occupied Mandalorian staging base before the events of the Vector crossover. A resource planet with concentrated recruits, technicians and transport activity creates a different outbreak risk from an isolated archaeological dig. John Jackson Miller's original commentary on issue #26 describes the camp as a Mandalorian counterpart to Republic staging areas such as Serroco. These logistical conditions help explain why the arrival of the Muur Talisman threatened more than its initial group of handlers.
The issue author explains what changed
In notes for issue #27 Miller distinguishes the talisman's influence on rakghouls from the way similar creatures behave in the original Knights of the Old Republic game. This matters to chronology: the outbreak in Vector is not simply another Taris plague report. Pulsipher and his Mandalorian troops enter a situation in which a powerful ancient artifact defeats their expectations about ordinary biological or military control. The story's dangers belong to the tale as written, not to an imagined real-world virus model.
Destruction is not total historical closure
The original issue #28 includes the nuclear destruction sequence, which Miller says he helped plan as an unusual arrangement of comics panels. Cassus Fett's action is a response to the immediate crisis, not an event that retroactively caused the earlier Mandalorian capture of Jebble. Celeste Morne's future within the crossover also prevents the claim that every consequence of the artifact ended with the explosion. The existing article's Marvel comic cover is correctly treated as a publication illustration, not a contemporaneous photograph.
Test your historical judgment: Did destroying the camp establish that the ancient talisman itself ceased to exist?
Evidence-based explanation: No. The stories following Celeste Morne demonstrate that the Muur Talisman was not simply destroyed with the Jebble installations. Eliminating a localized outbreak is not equivalent to accounting for every object and carrier.

Dreypa's Oubliette: containment survives orbital devastation
Source-supported reconstruction
At the Ice Citadel, Pulsipher's Muur Talisman created a Force-linked rakghoul outbreak. Jedi Covenant agent Celeste Morne became its host while trying to save Zayne Carrick. When she recognized the danger of an army under the spirit of Karness Muur, Zayne proposed that she enter Dreypa's Oubliette to contain the influence. She accepted the sealed stasis casket. Zayne and his friends escaped, and Cassus Fett later bombarded Jebble from orbit to prevent the infestation spreading.
Institutions and material culture
The case distinguishes containment of a powerful object from destruction of people and territory. Morne's sacrifice was an attempt to prevent possession and preserve control without releasing the threat, whereas Fett used overwhelming military force against an already devastated garrison. The Talisman crossed centuries by surviving as a material object rather than requiring a continuous living organization. This is an important point about the transmission of Sith traditions through artifacts.
Continuity and evidence limit
The bombing did not destroy the Oubliette: Celeste and the Talisman survived, and their story continues in later Vector eras. Claims that the planet's destruction removed every trace of them are wrong.
Historical judgment: Did the nuclear bombardment permanently destroy the Muur Talisman?
Correction and explanation: No. It survived with Celeste Morne inside Dreypa's Oubliette.

The Muur Talisman changes the war's risks
At Jebble, Mandalorian personnel encounter the ancient Muur Talisman and the threat becomes more than a conventional military encounter. The talisman's influence produces a rakghoul catastrophe in a base that had seemed useful for the wider Onslaught. This narrative belongs to the Knights of the Old Republic comics and the associated Vector crossover, so it should not be mistaken for the same epidemic experienced on other worlds thousands of years later.
The social lesson is about the limits of commanders' control over what they acquire. A captured or recovered object may have properties its new holders do not understand; the decision to concentrate personnel around it can spread danger through an organization. In Star Wars, its effects are part of fictional dark-side lore rather than real biological evidence. A historian should preserve the difference between the initial Mandalorian campaign, the talisman's arrival, the outbreak and the base's destruction.
