After Jakku the New Republic negotiated terms with the surviving Imperial government. The Galactic Concordance ended the main organized conflict and established legal commitments intended to prevent Imperial forces from rebuilding their prior military power.
Limits on the former Empire
The agreement restricted Imperial war-making capacity and recognized the New Republic's political role. It did not instantly change the outlook of every former Imperial supporter, nor did it physically destroy all stored military equipment.
A different understanding of security
New Republic leaders debated how much central military power should remain after years of rebellion and war. Decisions about demilitarization created new opportunities for member worlds but also vulnerabilities later exploited by hidden Imperial remnants.
Anthropological assessment
Treaties make a formal boundary between war and peace, but the social transition varies by community. Veterans, displaced civilians and former officials experienced different consequences, making the Concordance a beginning of reconstruction as well as an ending.

A battlefield defeat and a legal settlement are different kinds of historical event, even when they occur in the same broad postwar period.
The Concordance illustrates the social work of ending armed conflict: negotiators, institutions and enforcement mechanisms have to convert military outcomes into rules. The existence of an agreement does not imply that all former Imperial officials sincerely accepted it or that every remote remnant disappeared. Separating legal termination from continuing political conflict avoids an overly neat end to the chronology.

Galactic Concordance: peace and limits
The Galactic Concordance marked a formal political end to the Galactic Civil War after Jakku. Lucasfilm's New Republic Databank identifies the peace agreement with Imperial remnants alongside the revival of the Senate and drastic reductions in the Republic's military capabilities. These were institutional choices aimed at winning legitimacy from people exhausted by war, not inevitable consequences of one battle.
The significance of a treaty must be distinguished from universal compliance. Some Imperial successors did not accept the new political order, and the First Order arose in the following decades. Leia Organa later objected to the New Republic's unwillingness to confront that threat, providing a longer historical perspective on the weaknesses of postwar assumptions. A 5 ABY agreement cannot establish how every planet interpreted peace or whether all armed groups disbanded.
Research judgment: Did the Concordance ensure that no group inspired by the Empire would ever rearm?
Explanation: No. It formally ended the conflict but did not prevent the later formation and growth of the First Order.

What a peace agreement did and did not establish
The Galactic Concordance belongs after the Battle of Jakku in the Canon sequence, but it should not be described as a battlefield maneuver. The New Republic's official Databank entry distinguishes signing the treaty from the government's subsequent reduction of its military. It also describes the revival of the Senate. These decisions changed institutions that had operated under emergency war powers and under the Empire. Signing with Imperial remnants placed limits on a defeated state, but the public summary is not a complete clause-by-clause copy of the treaty.
A legal end to a war does not make armed and political conflict impossible. The First Order developed from Imperial successor networks, while Leia Organa grew concerned that reduced central defenses could leave the Republic exposed. Lucasfilm directly connects that concern to her later founding of the Resistance. This is a retrospective relationship across decades, not evidence that the 5 ABY negotiators knew every future development. Likewise, the official material does not document the reaction of every former Imperial world or certify uniform compliance with disarmament rules.
The anthropological question is how governments establish a recognized transition from rebellion and civil war into ordinary political authority. A peace agreement, a representative Senate and military reform are different institutional practices; each can gain legitimacy from some communities while drawing criticism from others. For context, examine the battle that preceded the agreement and Ben Solo's birth, which the novel ties to the same period. The baby's birth has personal and narrative significance, but it is not a cause of the Concordance.
