Darth Nyriss subjugates Ugroth's sector for the hidden Sith Empire

Around 3966 BBY, an entirely separate conflict unfolded beyond Republic knowledge. Darth Nyriss, a Dark Councilor of Vitiate's hidden Sith Empire, led Imperial forces into the sector ruled by the warlord Ugroth. The stated purpose was to subdue a potential uprising. Ugroth swore fealty to Nyriss, and the conquest became one of the trophies later displayed in her Dromund Kaas stronghold.

A second empire operates outside the Republic's map of the war

While Coruscant worried about Mandalorian expansion, Vitiate's Empire had already spent centuries rebuilding on Dromund Kaas. Its fleets, Dark Council, and regional campaigns existed beyond ordinary Republic intelligence.

The same year therefore contains two unrelated systems of imperial expansion: the visible Mandalorian crisis and a hidden Sith state preparing for a much later return.

Darth Nyriss as regional conqueror

Nyriss later identified herself through conquests such as Drezzi and Melldia and held one of the longest Dark Council tenures of her time. The Ugroth campaign fits a political culture in which Sith status was demonstrated through control of territory, military success, and personal power bases.

Her command also shows that the hidden Empire was not simply waiting passively. It continued policing and expanding its sphere while maintaining strategic secrecy.

Ugroth survives by submitting

Ugroth was not described as exterminated or removed. He retained a subordinate political identity after swearing fealty.

That arrangement resembles indirect imperial rule: local authority continues, but sovereignty is redefined through submission to a more powerful center.

Was this part of the Mandalorian Wars?

No. The date overlaps the Mandalorian Wars, but the subjugation belonged to Vitiate's hidden Sith Empire and was unknown to the Republic.

Why keep it here if the Republic did not know?

Because a galactic timeline should not reproduce only the Republic's viewpoint. Multiple political histories were happening simultaneously.

Anthropological assessment

Ugroth's sector is a strong warning against archive-centered history. If we used only Republic records, an entire imperial campaign would disappear from the year.

The arrangement also illustrates indirect rule. Empires often preserve local rulers when submission is cheaper and more stable than direct administration.
