WHO IS THE SHADOW WAR'S LEADER?
Open the Coil dossier.
Her followers are infected. Her authority is feared. And even her enemies cannot agree on what powers she possesses.
01 / CHARACTER FILE
A leader from the shadows of war
Kundri Fathom commands the Infinite Coil, a Separatist-aligned cult whose rise places it at the center of the hidden conflict fought in Star Wars Zero Company. Lucasfilm's official Databank confirms that she is infected by the Shadow Plague and has secured the extreme loyalty of her followers. Much else about her personal history remains deliberately obscure.
The wider Clone Wars provide the conditions for her ascent. Republic and Separatist armies divide territory, communities endure economic and physical upheaval, and official institutions struggle to recognize threats that do not resemble normal troop formations. A leader offering certainty amid this turbulence can become dangerous in ways an ordinary field officer cannot.
Lucasfilm describes Fathom as charismatic and menacing. The game places her at the heart of the crisis Zero Company must confront, but this is not a license to invent her childhood, Force training, or previously unknown mentors. What defines the known biography is her leadership, the infected group she commands and the danger she poses to worlds across the Republic.
An interesting villain study must distinguish the observed person from the legends circulating about her. Fathom is precisely the kind of character about whom both devoted followers and frightened outsiders tell stories that serve political ends.
02 / CHARACTER FILE
The rumor that she can wield the Force
Official accounts explicitly preserve disagreement about whether Fathom has Force abilities. One camp claims she is a Force wielder. Another insists that she is a persuasive fraud. Neither position is established as the definitive answer in her public Databank file, and neither should be silently promoted into certainty by a character archive.
The infection complicates every eyewitness account. The Shadow Plague is rumored to confer unnatural resilience and deadly capabilities, but a disturbing appearance or unexpected survival does not on its own prove Jedi or Sith training. An observer may mistake an unfamiliar physical effect for a supernatural act.
Fathom's authority can grow through this uncertainty. A reputation for powers that no one has fully verified may be more useful than a public demonstration that can be tested. Followers can accept signs as proof, while opponents become cautious even when they suspect deception.
The dossier therefore describes Fathom as the infected leader of the Infinite Coil. It does not give her an invented Sith title, lightsaber style, homeworld, formal Force rank or school of doctrine. If new primary material clarifies these questions, the distinction between old rumor and new confirmation should remain visible.
03 / CHARACTER FILE
The Infinite Coil and its infected membership
The Infinite Coil is described in the Star Wars Databank as a paramilitary cult aligned with the Separatist cause. Every member, including Fathom, is infected with the Shadow Plague. The group grows by preying on vulnerable populations, and the mysterious illness spreads along with that growing network.
This composition makes membership harder to understand than a formal enlistment. A uniformed soldier might enter service through training, conscription or contract. An infected Coil fighter may be drawn by belief, coerced by circumstances, or subject to processes that the official descriptions have not completely explained.
The Coil's connection to the Separatists matters politically but does not make it equivalent to every institution of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. It follows a distinct charismatic leader and operates through secrecy, ideological allegiance and the possibility of contagion rather than conventional battlefield occupation alone.
Researchers should avoid claiming that each member has exactly the same motive, level of autonomy or psychological experience. The term cult describes a recognizable social form in the narrative. It is not evidence that the minds of every infected person can be described with one sentence.

Shadow Plague: body, belief, and uncertainty
The Shadow Plague is a fictional disease associated with the Infinite Coil. Lucasfilm confirms infection among its members while describing extraordinary resilience and other deadly effects as rumors. No publicly established biological classification, transmission probability or medical treatment should be invented from that short description.
Fathom's own infection places the leader within the bodily danger she spreads. She is not simply commanding a crisis from a safe remote capital. Her appearance and reputation are bound up with the same mysterious condition defining her followers.
The plague changes how opponents interpret loyalty. When a group is both ideologically committed and physically affected by a dangerous condition, it is no longer simple to equate armed resistance with voluntary political consent. The mission against the Coil must be fought, but the surrounding question of culpability cannot be answered by the appearance of a combatant.
In the story, a biological threat becomes a vehicle for social transformation. As people and worlds fall under Coil influence, ordinary kinship, authority and security systems may be disrupted. This is an IDS interpretation of the fictional setting, not a claim about real-world epidemics.

Hawks, Republic Intelligence and the campaign
Zero Company follows Hawks, a former Republic officer who commands a small outfit of unusual specialists. Official EA release coverage describes the organization being hired through Republic Intelligence to find and stop Kundri Fathom before the Shadow Plague can overrun the galaxy.
The difference in organizational form is important. Hawks cannot mobilize an entire conventional army, but can recruit and deploy specialized Operators, collect information and act across regions where larger forces may be constrained. Fathom's Coil, in contrast, grows as a dispersed, infected following gathered around a central figure.
The Zero Company mission guide follows investigations, tactical battles and the search for the cult's command network. Named threats such as Typhon and Visser appear in the official Databank connections. Their biographies are separate from Fathom's: the existence of subordinates does not mean every action they take must be attributed to her personally.
Players seeking exactly how to complete the final missions should open the existing Zero Company walkthrough. A character dossier can explain the stakes, but it should not pretend that a general story summary substitutes for verified objectives, positioning advice or a researched boss strategy.
06 / CHARACTER FILE
Appearance, performance and signs of power
The official Lucasfilm portrait depicts Fathom with a discolored complexion and fine, striking markings visible on her skin. The image presents the infected leader as recognizably humanlike while also establishing an uneasy difference that the game connects to the Coil's plague.
At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026, Lucasfilm announced Rekha Sharma as the character's voice performer. In discussing the role, Sharma connected Fathom's anger to someone who has lived through a brutal period of war and no longer wishes to follow the same path as others. This is an actor's account of emotional motivation, not a detailed canonical childhood record.
The performance helps explain charisma without collapsing it into moral approval. A convincing antagonist may express frustration rooted in a recognizable history and still choose methods that threaten other populations. Empathy for circumstances does not erase responsibility for actions.
Design elements such as body markings or the contrast of light and shadow can suggest supernatural influence to a viewer. Without a direct official statement, those elements should not be converted into invented species characteristics or proof of a Sith ritual.

IDS CULTURE LAB / CONTAGION AND AUTHORITY
Anthropological assessment: charisma under coercion
Fathom allows the archive to examine a difficult distinction between belonging and control. The Coil's followers are described as fiercely loyal, but all are also infected with the Shadow Plague. The narrative creates ambiguity about whether membership is chosen, imposed, or shaped by several overlapping pressures.
Her disputed Force reputation shows that authority may develop through stories people tell about a leader, whether or not those stories are verified. In a crisis, a claim of miraculous capability can promise protection, justify obedience, or frighten opponents into caution. Those are social effects even before a scientific or supernatural explanation is settled.
The Coil's growth raises questions about the vulnerability of communities facing war, hardship and displacement. People can be targeted where ordinary institutions no longer guarantee security. A movement promising order may exploit those conditions, while a small group like Zero Company must decide how to protect threatened populations.
This character's importance therefore lies in more than the spectacle of a final antagonist. Her story joins infection, rumor, organizational allegiance and the limits of state protection. The interactive modules below ask how an investigator distinguishes evidence from reputation without claiming to predict hidden game routes.
