IDS ATTACK OPERATIONS / PLAYBOOK 03

Bad Batch against General Grievous

Bad Batch has a documented historical approach against certain Grievous-led Droids. A fast Bad Batch Echo can open with Daze, Tech's Brilliant Idea Stuns already Dazed or Target Locked enemies, and Hunter can manipulate a teammate's Turn Meter. The battle is not safe if the enemy acts first or a Datacron changes control and resist mechanics.

01 / MATCHUP ELIGIBILITY

When this attack is worth considering

POSSIBLE FIT

Use this as a scouting candidate

The original Hunter/Echo/Tech/Wrecker/Omega composition versus a conventional Grievous + B1/B2/MagnaGuard-based defense, without a new immunity or surprise fifth that ruins the opening.

CAUTION

When to decline

A Grievous squad with BB-8 or other support that changes starting turn order, or one with a datacron/immune target that invalidates Echo → Tech control, needs a separate review. Do not assume the entire team is necessary in 3v3: the five-unit rotation physically cannot fit.

Evidence level: Classic Bad Batch vs Grievous is a community-reported matchup, not independently confirmed for every Season 84 lineup; fifth-slot changes and modern Datacrons can defeat it. Before committing, open the actual season statistics and compare the entire enemy lineup with your available units. A matchup recommended several years ago may now depend on a Datacron, a kit adjustment or a changed fifth character.

Team roles above explain the intended mechanic, not a requirement to own every optional character. A five-character list can only enter 5v5. In 3v3, no guide can claim that removing two allies preserves the same battle results. For solo Wampa, the four empty slots are intentionally essential to the Omicron, not a recommendation to fill them.

03 / ABILITY TRIGGERS

What must work for the plan to succeed?

KIT INTERACTION 01

Echo's fast opener

A common older Bad Batch approach makes Echo the fast opener to apply Daze and remove hostile buffs. Confirm you are using the Bad Batch Echo, not CT-21-0408 Echo. Check his actual ability level and enemy immunity.

KIT INTERACTION 02

Tech's Brilliant Idea

Tech can Stun enemies already Dazed or Target Locked while cleansing Clone Trooper allies and granting Bad Batch defensive buffs. If Echo fails to apply the required status, Brilliant Idea may not provide expected control.

KIT INTERACTION 03

Hunter's Turn Meter swap

Finish What We Started can expose a target and swap Turn Meter with another Clone Trooper. Using it on a Bad Batch teammate can create a useful extra control turn. Timing depends on who is ready to act next.

KIT INTERACTION 04

Wrecker's survival and Fury

Wrecker provides protection and eventually Furious, which can add Stun to Wrecking Ball. The Furious state depends on the actual Fury stacks; do not count on a full-team stun before it is activated.

These summaries describe fully upgraded kit mechanics. If a Zeta, Omicron, special ability tier or faction restriction is missing from your account, the sequence below may not apply. Verify those terms through the primary character references in the source desk. The game interface is the final authority on your unit's actual upgrade level.

TACTICAL DECISION 01 / 04

Confirm Echo goes first

Check actual speeds and use the correct Bad Batch Echo's debuff setup only when it can land.

If the battle changes: If Grievous or a surprise fifth acts first, switch from the assumed script to defense.

04 / CONDITIONAL OPENING WALKTHROUGH

Six decisions for your attack

Use this sequence to reason about the next action. Do not interpret it as an automated battle or a guaranteed win path. A resisted debuff, a different first turn or an unexpected Datacron effect must change the plan.

  1. 01

    Verify the exact Grievous lineup

Inspect B1, B2, MagnaGuard, and any fifth such as Droideka, Nute or BB-8. A BB-8 variation may alter the tempo of the initial turns.

  2. 02

    Confirm Echo's opening Speed

Check if your Bad Batch Echo can go first and apply Daze or dispel before Grievous's team develops. An assumed Echo opener is invalid if another unit moves first or the enemy is immune.

  3. 03

Set up Tech instead of guessing

When Echo's setup lands, Tech's Brilliant Idea can Stun enemies who are Dazed or Target Locked. If the setup fails, use the ability for its cleanse/defense if appropriate, rather than expecting Stun.

  4. 04

Use Hunter to create a controlled follow-up

Hunter can swap Turn Meter with another Clone Trooper. Choose the ally that needs the next action—often someone able to continue disabling B2/MagnaGuard or remove a dangerous target.

  5. 05

    Defend against Grievous's bonus turn

If an allied Droid or Separatist is defeated and Grievous's Zeta is active, he can reset cooldowns and gain a bonus turn. Keep your team protected and avoid an elimination that accidentally gives him an uncontrollable opening.

  6. 06

    Finish with the actual roster

Use Wrecker's Taunt, defensive buffs and Furious powers where available. Focus on reachable threats; B1's Battalion stacks and MagnaGuard Taunt can invalidate a naive kill order.

When something unexpected happens:

Recheck the exact target restriction, enemy Taunt, cooldown, turn meter, and whether an ally or summoned unit triggered a separate effect. The reason for failure is often visible in a kit clause that was not active in the example that inspired the counter.

INTERACTIVE / FAILURE DIAGNOSIS

What went wrong?

Choose the problem closest to the first decisive error in the fight. This is a troubleshooting reference, not a replay interpreter; it does not read your game account or infer which characters you actually own.

Grievous moves before Echo

The intended control window is lost. Check Speed, pre-battle Turn Meter, BB-8 synergy and Datacrons before replaying the same sequence.

Tech fails to Stun

His stun requires the target to be Dazed or Target Locked. Check whether Echo's debuff actually applied, whether the skill is upgraded and whether enemies are immune.

A Droid defeat causes a Grievous rampage

Metalloid Monstrosity's Zeta can grant a bonus turn and reset cooldowns. The order of eliminations matters as much as total damage.

Wrecker doesn't Stun the whole team

Wrecking Ball's upgraded Furious behavior requires Fury to build first. Check Wrecker's Unique and the actual in-battle status before assuming the stun is ready.

I used five-unit instructions in 3v3

A three-character formation loses two support slots. Hunter, Echo and Tech may be a distinct trio but not automatically an established Season 83 counter. Seek actual 3v3 match records.
