General Grievous is an attacker who scales his damage from Max Health and benefits from Droid allies. A defense can turn its own Droid damage and losses into Grievous momentum. The attacker's key job is to understand which Droid support pieces are present and when a single elimination grants Grievous a bonus turn.

OFFENSIVE COUNTER EXAMPLE / NOT A GUARANTEED WIN
A concrete attacking-team walkthrough
The defender mechanics below explain what your offensive squad must survive. To see one historically reported attacker, open the dedicated guide for Original Bad Batch vs Grievous. It documents Echo's Daze into Tech's conditional Stun, with Hunter's Turn Meter swap. Confirm the current battle format, full lineup, Zetas, Omicrons and Datacron before trying this attack.
A common teaching core is General Grievous, B1 Battle Droid, B2 Super Battle Droid, IG-100 MagnaGuard and Droideka. Different defensive fifths and Datacrons can change the battle significantly.
Do not name a counter from the leader portrait alone. Record every active character and its upgrades. A different fifth unit can add revives, Taunt, dispels or starting Turn Meter; a Datacron may change which unit can be targeted or defeated on the first turn. The difference matters more than a colorful ranking or raw Galactic Power total.
Recorded battles are evidence, not instructions.
SWGOH.GG's Season 84 Grievous counter page reports thousands of battles, but individual visible rows are often small samples. Consult the exact five-person defense and current season instead of selecting the first row sorted by 100% wins. SWGOH.GG separates Season 84's 5v5 battles from Season 83's 3v3 matches. Counts and rates are changing, and this editorial guide does not copy a live percentage or certify a particular attacking squad.

Four mechanisms that change the matchup
By Imperial Dark Sector
EVIDENCE 01
Daunting Presence: Target Lock generates tempo
The upgraded leader lowers opposing Defense and Critical Avoidance and gives Droid/Separatist allies Turn Meter when they damage a Target Locked enemy. If your attack relies on counters or assumes every enemy will remain unmarked, read these clauses first.
Grievous damages other Droid allies at the start of his own turn, gaining Max Health and Potency. When his Unique Zeta is active, the defeat of a Droid or Separatist ally can clear debuffs, reset cooldowns and grant a bonus turn. An early kill can produce an unexpected Grievous response.
B1 has one Health and no Protection; it survives while Droid Battalion stacks remain and may assist Separatists. Treat repeated B1 hits as stack management rather than a conventional low-Health enemy. Its upgraded kit and current stacks change the battle length.
B2 can strip buffs and apply Buff Immunity while reacting to ally interactions. MagnaGuard supplies Taunt, defense and dispels to support the team. A legal direct attack on Grievous depends on these tank and control conditions.
Several effects above come from final Zeta, Omega or Omicron upgrades. Check your opponent's available ability tiers whenever possible. If a mechanic requires a faction or a particular Leader tag, confirm the displayed squad actually qualifies before building your opening plan around that condition.
03 / PRACTICAL BATTLE SCOUTING
Six decisions before and during your attack
01
Read the precise Droid team
List all five defenders, whether Droideka is present, and any Datacron or mode-specific upgrade. One swap can change the defensive plan.
02
Inspect the opening protection
Identify MagnaGuard's available Taunt and whether an enemy ability can ignore Taunt. Check B2's reactive Turn Meter and the timing of its area buff removal.
03
Plan around Target Lock
Damaging a Target Locked character can advance the Droid team under Grievous's leadership. Consider whether your attacker can avoid feeding the loop while applying its own effective control.
04
Don't assume the first elimination is free
If Metalloid Monstrosity's Zeta is present, defeating a Separatist or Droid ally can give Grievous a bonus turn and reset cooldowns. Reserve survival or control resources for that reaction.
05
Choose a reachable threat
Whether B1, B2, MagnaGuard or Grievous should fall first depends on actual access, ability levels, battle modifiers and damage. Do not present a fixed kill order as a universal counter.
06
Check whether Grievous is scaling
Long fights can give Grievous additional Max Health as Droid allies take damage at his turn start. If your team cannot finish before he scales, prioritize sustainable damage or a better-supported offense.
These are conditional instructions, not a claim of firsthand playtesting or a universal winning ability rotation. If a required mechanic is missing from the defense, adapt the plan. An opponent can react through counters, revives, dispels, Taunt or additional turns even if the first action succeeds.

INTERACTIVE / FAILURE ANALYSIS
What made the attempt go wrong?
Select the outcome closest to your battle. The explanation points to the first mechanic to verify, not a claim that a single unit caused the loss. Check ability levels, timing, opponent Datacrons and the complete defense before changing expensive gear.
The first Droid kill triggers a disaster
Metalloid Monstrosity's Zeta can grant Grievous a bonus turn and ability cooldown reset when a Droid or Separatist ally is defeated. Consider the timing of your finishing blow.
