01 · Start here

Origin Story, Combat Style and discipline are different choices

Origin Story determines your class missions, dialogue, voice, starting location and companions. Combat Style determines your fighting abilities, usable weapons and available group roles. Discipline is the specialization you select within a style. Game Update 7.0 separated the story from its original Advanced Classes in February 2022.

A Jedi Knight can follow the Jedi Knight story while fighting with Shadow abilities. A Trooper can use the Sniper style and remain a Republic Trooper in the story. You cannot mix Force and Tech styles on the same Origin Story.

Combat Style choices are long-term decisions. Changing a discipline or loadout is not the same as freely replacing your originally selected style.

Filter by combat category, tanking, healing, damage, distance or stealth. Roles reflect available disciplines, not a current damage-per-second ranking. All styles have damage options, but only some can tank or heal.

Restrictions, second styles and loadouts

Force or Tech?

Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, Sith Warrior and Sith Inquisitor can choose Force styles only. Trooper, Smuggler, Bounty Hunter and Imperial Agent can choose all eight Tech styles. Your faction story does not change when you choose an eligible style.

Light and Dark unlocks

New Jedi normally choose among Guardian, Sentinel, Sage and Shadow. New Sith normally choose Juggernaut, Marauder, Sorcerer and Assassin. Light V and Dark V Legacy unlocks can allow opposite-alignment Force styles; Tech styles have no Light/Dark division.

Second Combat Style

Eligible subscribers can select a second style after an Origin Story Chapter 3 completion has unlocked this option for their Legacy. The corresponding in-game mission can appear earlier on later characters. Free-to-play and Preferred account restrictions are different.

Disciplines and loadouts

Every style has three disciplines. You can switch specialization outside combat and use loadouts to keep different equipment and ability configurations. Your chosen Combat Style is not simply another freely interchangeable loadout.

Choose your story next

A fighting style does not determine the plot you experience. Pick the Origin Story that interests you, then select one of its available styles.
