Corso Riggs opens a distinctive view of frontier labor, personal honor and property in SWTOR's Smuggler story. The IDS dossier separates official character biography, Origin Story circumstances and anthropological interpretation.
Original class-story recruitment
How to recruit Corso Riggs
After the opening freighter trouble, Corso is the first original crew member.
Not showing in your crew? Continue the purple Smuggler class missions and open Companions & Contacts (default N). The original story recruitment is different from later Alliance reunions, some of which depend on expansion decisions. If you are already in a later expansion, see the current companion-availability guidance below.

Background and family history
Corso Riggs is a practical worker shaped by frontier conditions rather than the relative security of the Core. The Holonet describes a background in which weapons, tools and loyalty have immediate material consequences. His trust in people and his attachment to a moral code sometimes clash with the Smuggler's more flexible approach to deals. That contrast is productive because the Smuggler's freedom is partly supported by the work of people who cannot afford to treat every obligation as temporary.

Role in the Origin Story
Corso joins the crew after the theft that starts the Smuggler Origin Story on Ord Mantell. He provides familiarity with local conditions while the captain's pursuit of Skavak moves into a wider galaxy of pirates, traders and competing patrons. Corso's ideas about honor and proper conduct are not a neutral definition of morality; they are a particular response to insecurity, broken promises and the risks of living far from authoritative protection.

Gameplay after joining the crew
Corso Riggs is one of the five original story companions of the Smuggler Origin Story. Recruitment occurs through that story's mission progression, with access to conversations and any romance branches dependent on player decisions and version-specific rules. Old Holonet statistics, weapon restrictions, companion gifts and crafting bonuses refer to earlier SWTOR systems. Check current patch notes or the in-game companion window for combat roles and access, particularly when playing the shared Alliance expansions.

Background and cultural interpretation
Corso is useful for an analysis of informal property protection. In areas where courts and policing are weak, reputation and reciprocal commitments may substitute for enforceable contracts. Yet personal honor is not enough to settle disagreement over who owns goods or who owes labor. His attitudes toward companions and romantic interests also invite critical examination rather than treating benevolent language as proof of equal power.
