Iden's defensive team is defined by who is allowed to join it. Her key leadership, early Turn Meter, Protection recovery and revived Troopers are conditional. Before choosing a counter, identify every unit with the Leader tag and check whether the team has a Droid. A visually familiar Imperial squad can behave very differently after one substitution.

OFFENSIVE COUNTER EXAMPLE / NOT A GUARANTEED WIN
A concrete attacking-team walkthrough
The defender mechanics below explain what your offensive squad must survive. To see one historically reported attacker, open the dedicated guide for Solo Wampa vs Iden. It documents A historical solo Omicron option; check Scout Trooper, control and Datacron. Confirm the current battle format, full lineup, Zetas, Omicrons and Datacron before trying this attack.
Iden Versio leading non-Droid Imperial Troopers such as Death Trooper, Snowtrooper, Magmatrooper and Stormtrooper. The available slots may change; verify that other allies do not carry the Leader tag.
Do not name a counter from the leader portrait alone. Record every active character and its upgrades. A different fifth unit can add revives, Taunt, dispels or starting Turn Meter; a Datacron may change which unit can be targeted or defeated on the first turn. The difference matters more than a colorful ranking or raw Galactic Power total.
Recorded battles are evidence, not instructions.
The current GAC Season 84 Iden Versio counter archive contains thousands of recorded battles. It does not prove a particular attacking composition will win at your gear level, especially against the current Iden Datacron. SWGOH.GG separates Season 84's 5v5 battles from Season 83's 3v3 matches. Counts and rates are changing, and this editorial guide does not copy a live percentage or certify a particular attacking squad.

Four mechanisms that change the matchup

EVIDENCE 01
Exactly as Planned: composition gate
Iden grants Imperial Troopers base stat bonuses. If no other ally has the Leader tag, non-Droid Trooper allies gain extra counterattack and out-of-turn benefits. In Grand Arena with the Omicron, Imperial Troopers gain extra Health and Protection and may recover when the enemy attacks out of turn.
The fully upgraded Unique requires all allies to be non-Droid Imperial Troopers and no other Leader-tagged ally to give Iden a large opening Turn Meter gain. It can also revive her if another Imperial Trooper ally remains active. Check the actual upgrade and lineup first.
Iden's Special dispels Imperial Trooper debuffs and restores Protection. When the leader condition is met, non-Droid allies can receive We Adapt, Or Die, which offers offensive bonuses and a conditional revive when defeated. Its dispel interaction can also change the battle unexpectedly.
The Art of Command Datacron may add further Vulnerable-based damage, Turn Meter effects and stacking survivability. Check whether the exact Datacron is equipped and eligible before applying older advice or expected banners.
Several effects above come from final Zeta, Omega or Omicron upgrades. Check your opponent's available ability tiers whenever possible. If a mechanic requires a faction or a particular Leader tag, confirm the displayed squad actually qualifies before building your opening plan around that condition.
03 / PRACTICAL BATTLE SCOUTING
Six decisions before and during your attack
01
Verify the all-important ally tags
Identify Iden as leader, then inspect all four other names and tags. A second Leader or a Droid can deactivate important portions of the usual Iden opening.
02
Read the Omicron and Datacron
Confirm whether Exactly as Planned is Omicron-upgraded and the GAC battle is active. If a Datacron is equipped, inspect its exact level and bonuses; do not predict from the character alone.
03
Plan around Iden's first action
If First In, Last Out is fully active, Iden can gain opening Turn Meter. Your attack requires an answer for early area damage, counters and We Adapt, Or Die rather than relying solely on raw mod Speed.
04
Avoid blind out-of-turn attacks
With the Omicron active, enemy attacks out of turn can trigger Health and Protection recovery for Iden's Troopers. If your proposed attacker relies on frequent assists, inspect whether it is feeding the defense.
05
Identify how a defeat will stick
We Adapt, Or Die and First In, Last Out can produce revives under specific conditions. Read what remains active before choosing the elimination order and spending a single-target finisher.
06
Reassess after a revive or dispel
If Iden returns, or an ally gains Turn Meter after a buff is dispelled, compare the event to the actual kit. Do not assume the battle has followed the expected path merely because the target was knocked out.
These are conditional instructions, not a claim of firsthand playtesting or a universal winning ability rotation. If a required mechanic is missing from the defense, adapt the plan. An opponent can react through counters, revives, dispels, Taunt or additional turns even if the first action succeeds.

What made the attempt go wrong?
Select the outcome closest to your battle. The explanation points to the first mechanic to verify, not a claim that a single unit caused the loss. Check ability levels, timing, opponent Datacrons and the complete defense before changing expensive gear.
Iden moves before my supposedly faster team
Check the First In, Last Out condition. A fully upgraded Iden with no other Leader-tagged ally and all non-Droid Imperial Troopers can gain opening Turn Meter.
