How to jump into this adventure
Where to pick up the story
Start this story after Shadow of Revan and the intervening Ziost material if you want the narrative in publication order. The publisher introduced the opening as Chapter I: The Hunt. The in-game Eras Window can point an eligible character toward the next major mission.
The main campaign route
The adventure becomes an episodic campaign about Zakuul, Valkorion and the new Alliance. Story chapters are the core experience; alliance recruitment and alerts expand your companion roster alongside it. Chapters can be revisited, but initial story choices may shape later scenes.
Useful before you play
A substantial shift from eight separate class campaigns to a shared storyline. Before starting, finish any earlier personal stories you still want to experience on that character. Companion availability and mission framing change in this era; avoid assuming the original five-character crew stays on your ship throughout.
For the exact next mission on your character, open the Eras Window introduced in Game Update 7.7. Official Eras Window and Mission Log details · Official expansion information. Current UI, availability, and chapter requirements can differ from the original expansion launches.

Play this expansion in order
Before you begin
Complete the original class campaign, Shadow of Revan and the Ziost storyline for the clearest background. Beginning Fallen Empire can change access to unfinished earlier storylines and companions.
- Chapters I–IX
Begin the Zakuul campaign, reach Odessen, and establish the Alliance through the chapter missions.
- Chapters X–XVI
Continue the remaining original Fallen Empire chapters in order. These complete the expansion's central campaign rather than a separate planet checklist.
- Alliance and companion activities
Companion alerts and Alliance recruitment may appear alongside chapters, but they are not substitutes for progressing the main 16-chapter story.
What comes after
Proceed to the nine chapters of Knights of the Eternal Throne. The story is primarily shared across original classes, although some dialogue and companion outcomes depend on earlier choices.
What is optional, not part of the required storyline?
Star Fortress missions, optional Alliance Alerts, and chapter difficulty replays are supplemental. They are not all mandatory to finish the chapter storyline.
Story order checked against the 2026 solo story guide and publisher story and update information. Check the Eras Window for the next mission on your character.
The arrival of the Eternal Empire displaces the familiar two-state rivalry. The player becomes the Outlander, experiences political dispossession, and helps form an Alliance across former enemy lines.
01 · Expansion analysis
Historical starting point
After Ziost's catastrophe, Republic and Sith leaders recognize the danger posed by an apparently resurgent Emperor. Contact with the previously unfamiliar Eternal Empire reverses many expectations about military superiority. Its ruler Valkorion and members of his family come to occupy the story's center, and the player's character moves from established class status toward imprisonment and exile.
02 · Expansion analysis
Campaign story and faction perspectives
The Outlander's eventual return to political life is organized around recruitment and alliance building rather than recovering the old rank. Lana Beniko and other associates help establish a network on Odessen. The chapter format introduces companions from other Origin Stories and makes the political status of former Republic and Imperial members less straightforward.
03 · Expansion analysis
How to play and how rules changed
The original Fallen Empire release presented a chapter-based narrative, later followed by regular additional chapters. Its companion recruitment system added Alliance Alerts and more choices about who would join the player's cause. Contemporary progression and subscription requirements should be checked in-game; publisher marketing language from 2015 is not a current entitlement guarantee.
04 · Expansion analysis
What the expansion adds to Legends society
Zakuul is more than a palace and an army. It is a different social environment whose urban landscape, Knights and imperial fleet raise questions about how the state provides for residents while dominating the rest of the galaxy. The Alliance, in turn, must secure support from groups that once lacked reason to trust one another.
05 · Expansion analysis
Anthropological assessment
The most valuable anthropological question concerns the making of political legitimacy after defeat. The Outlander does not simply inherit an uncontested office. The Alliance has to translate different military and religious identities into working cooperation while the Eternal Empire uses superior weapons and fear to impose obedience.
