SWTOR Origin Story · Republic

Jedi Knight

The Knight enters the Great Galactic War’s aftermath as a promising Padawan and is gradually drafted into operations that place the lives of whole planets against the demands of Jedi principle. The story is not merely about winning lightsaber duels. It asks how an order committed to peace exercises coercive power when diplomats, intelligence officers, and generals expect it to become an emergency military institution.

How to jump into this adventure

Where you begin

Begin the Jedi Knight story on Tython, completing your class missions and Jedi training before the adventure moves toward Coruscant. The game will introduce your ship and crew through story progress. Follow purple story markers rather than trying to travel to later planets early.

What you actually play

This is SWTOR's direct Jedi-versus-Sith campaign. Expect Jedi Order assignments, an escalating Imperial threat and major encounters tied to the Sith Emperor. T7-01 is an early story companion; Kira Carsen becomes central as the plot opens up. The original adventure is a prologue followed by three chapters.

Worth knowing

Good first character if you want the classic heroic Star Wars arc. Check the mission log before switching planets, talk with companions between story beats, and keep chapter summaries closed if you want to avoid spoilers. You do not have to pick the historical Guardian or Sentinel fighting style to play this Origin Story.

For the exact next mission on your character, open the Eras Window introduced in Game Update 7.7. Official Eras Window and Mission Log details · Official story missions. Current UI, availability, and chapter requirements can differ from the original expansion launches.

01 · Position within the galaxy

The story and the institutions it reveals

The Knight enters the Great Galactic War’s aftermath as a promising Padawan and is gradually drafted into operations that place the lives of whole planets against the demands of Jedi principle. The story is not merely about winning lightsaber duels. It asks how an order committed to peace exercises coercive power when diplomats, intelligence officers, and generals expect it to become an emergency military institution.

Master Orgus Din mentors the new Knight after danger reaches the Jedi enclave on Tython. Relations with the local Twi’lek settlement and the fall of Bengel Morr expose disagreements within a community that supposedly shares a philosophy. The Republic’s political center and military research programs soon bring the Knight into a much wider war.

The protagonist enters the conflict in the position of Frontline Jedi, defender, wartime commander. Beginning on Tython, this narrative unfolds alongside the same Republic–Sith struggle explored by the other seven Origin Stories. A single storyline does not give a complete survey of the galaxy. Its conflicts and choices reveal the assumptions and restrictions facing this particular character, including who issues orders, controls travel, assigns rank, provides knowledge, and defines a mission's success.

02 · Main class narrative

Prologue and the three original chapters

The prologue begins on Tython. Follow your purple Origin Story missions, then read the three chapter sections below for story direction, important characters and the complete recap. Your current Mission Log and Eras Window, rather than a historical mission coordinate, provide the precise next objective.

I · The Vengeance of Darth Angral

What you will play

Chapter I — Track the military superweapon crisis while following the Jedi Knight's class missions across Republic and contested worlds. Kira and T7 provide the central early crew perspective. Treat the Desolator storyline as a continuing class plot, not an optional planet arc.

Story recap

Darth Angral turns stolen Republic superweapons into instruments of reprisal. Alongside Kira Carsen and T7-01, the Knight follows weapons programs and hostile Sith officers across several worlds before facing Angral and the Desolator threat.

World and character context

Read these missions as a dispute about military technology and civilian exposure. Republic weapons become instruments of terror when captured by an enemy, and the individual Jedi is expected to compensate for institutional failures in security and procurement.

II · Hunt for the Sith Emperor

What you will play

Chapter II — The Knight takes part in Master Tol Braga's campaign against the Sith Emperor. Expect a major shift from Republic weapons investigations to Jedi strike-team decisions. Finish the chapter before opening its full plot summary.

Story recap

Master Tol Braga organizes an effort to capture the Sith Emperor rather than simply kill him. The Knight joins a strike team seeking access to hidden Imperial territory; a confrontation produces an acute crisis of agency and obedience.

World and character context

Braga's proposed solution depends upon personal redemption while war continues around him. The encounter with the Emperor tests whether a moral ideal can survive contact with an adversary capable of coercing others' wills.

III · Racing Against Doomsday

What you will play

Chapter III — Follow Scourge's warnings and the Emperor-related endgame through the purple story missions. Companion loyalties and earlier events matter to the ending; this is the final original Knight chapter before the wider post-class arcs.

Story recap

Lord Scourge reveals the Emperor's wider plan to use mass death as a route to overwhelming power. The Knight tracks threats to populated worlds, confronts compromised allies, and ultimately strikes at the Emperor's immediate designs.

World and character context

Scourge's defection forces a change in how enemies are classified. The Knight's final campaign raises questions about temporary alliances, imperfect information, and the extraordinary authority accorded to a celebrated defender.

03 · Recruit your crew

Where your five original companions join

As you progress the purple Jedi Knight storyline, the crew expands. The five linked recruitment cards below show where each companion joins the original adventure and what to follow next. These are not Alliance Alerts or modern combat-build rankings.

Since Game Update 4.0, original class companion conversations unlock through class story progress, not an affection threshold. Companions can fill healing, damage and tank roles, with their gear serving a cosmetic purpose. Speak with them aboard your ship between planets.

Returning after an expansion? Since Game Update 7.9 (June 2026), Companions & Contacts has an Ineligible for Story tab. It lets you use narratively unavailable companions in gameplay without changing their story status. The older Companion Locator Terminal is disabled. Official 7.9 companion changes

Explore Kira Carsen beyond combat

Kira Carsen is a young Jedi whose confidence and humor conceal a childhood shaped by the Empire's brutal institutions. Her position within the Jedi Order cannot be understood apart from the experience of escaping an abusive environment and becoming part of a very different teaching community.

How to play this story without confusing it with a Combat Style

Choose this story if you want direct contact with the Sith Emperor, large-scale military and Jedi history, and an escalating heroic campaign. The originally associated Guardian and Sentinel archetypes remain useful descriptions of combat fantasy, but the Origin Story no longer locks every new character into those two styles.

Starting world: Tython. Class-story ship: Defender-class light corvette. Original Advanced Class associations: Guardian and Sentinel. Those associations describe the game's historical class presentation, not exclusive 2026 fighting options.

As of the 7.0 system, you choose the narrative Origin Story and your Combat Style as distinct character-creation decisions. Force-based stories select from eligible Force styles and tech-based stories from eligible Tech styles. Further eligibility, switching and additional styles depend on game unlocks, character status and current rules. For precise combat mechanics, compare the official 7.0 rules with the newest published patch notes; avoid using pre-7.0 ability lists as current build advice.

For a first playthrough, preserve your original class missions and speak with companions between major planets. Story decisions may change dialogue and relationships, while later shared expansions can converge on the same broader galactic events. Use the Eras Window to find the next main mission when returning after a long break.

05 · IDS anthropology dossier

Jedi Knight: social meaning of the playable career

The Jedi Knight provides the clearest opportunity to study the militarization of religious authority. Decisions framed as personal heroism take place inside a bureaucracy with weapons programs, strategic intelligence and military command. A scholar should ask which choices belong to the player, which are already decided by the mission structure, and which communities appear only as populations to be rescued.

Each Origin Story establishes a particular social location rather than an unbiased historical perspective. The character's access to knowledge, legitimacy, patronage and mobility depends on institutional context. For this class, the most productive themes are war and religious ethics, Jedi duty, the Emperor's plans. These themes are analytical questions applied to fictional material. They should not be mistaken for official authorial explanations, nor should outcomes chosen by one player be presented as the only possible version of the narrative.

An ethnographic analogy requires restraint. The game designs situations in which missions, dialogue menus and reward structures shape action. It cannot supply observations of real communities or evidence that a political theory is true. Its educational value lies in asking how a player learns to act within a social institution, what actions the mechanics reward, and whose experiences remain outside the story's field of view.
