OPERATION WALKTHROUGH / ASATION · FIVE ENCOUNTERS · COLOR-PUZZLE WALKTHROUGH
Terror from Beyond (Asation): Imperial Operation Walkthrough
Reach Asation through the Imperial fleet's Ziost Shadow and face five sequential encounters that culminate in an ancient Gree Hypergate. This route explains the confusing Operator IX color assignments, Dread Guards Doom debuff and final Terror platform phase in exact player terms.

01 · FIND THE INSTANCE
How to get to the Imperial Operation entrance
VAIKEN SPACEDOCK → ZIOST SHADOW CAPITAL SHIP → MISSION DECK → TERROR FROM BEYOND entrance → ASATION.
Available modes: Story, Veteran and Master modes exist. First-time groups should select Story. Requires subscriber Operations access and a coordinated raid group.
01
Find the correct fleet ship
Go to Imperial Fleet VAIKEN SPACEDOCK and travel to the capital ship ZIOST SHADOW. Use its MISSION DECK, not the Belsavis surface travel shuttle or the Republic Gav Daragon.
02
Use Terror From Beyond Operation entrance
On the Ziost Shadow's Mission Deck find the TERROR FROM BEYOND entry leading to ASATION, the Gree Hypergate world. If the one-time story giver no longer offers a quest, ask the Operations leader to confirm the instance and difficulty.
03
Set group mode and roles
Select Story Mode for a first attempt. Arrange two tanks, two healers and four damage dealers for eight players, and assign your actual Discipline role. Vengeance Juggernaut = Damage.
04
Review color puzzle BEFORE entering
Before pulling any boss identify pairs for BLUE, ORANGE, PURPLE and YELLOW. Assign one PLAYER TO STAND IN CIRCLE and one TO USE CONSOLE for each color in Operator IX; otherwise one unprepared person can block the raid.
THE BOSS ENCOUNTERS IN ORDER
Operation travel order
A schematic of encounter order, NOT a scaled in-game location map. Use the source screenshot guides below for actual terrain and puzzle panels.
How you reach this boss: From the Asation entry follow the cleared passage to the sewer/wetland arena with a giant burrowing Horror, three flower patches and small adds.
01
Face the Horror away
Tank WRITHING HORROR so its frontal attacks face AWAY from the raid. Stay aware that the boss BURROWS and reappears on the opposite side of the arena.
02
Cleanse CORROSIVE SLIME
A healer dispels the CORROSIVE SLIME damage-over-time debuff; leaving it unattended costs unnecessary healing.
03
Watch the red pheromone flower
When JEALOUS MALE and FOUL OFFSPRING arrive, one assigned player steps into the RED CALMING PHEROMONE puddle that appears near the flowers.
04
Stack adds on pheromone carrier
The red-puddle player attracts the FOUL OFFSPRING with their damage reduced. Bring them together for safe area attacks; keep the JEALOUS MALE facing away from the group.
05
Kill in correct priority
When adds exist, focus FOUL OFFSPRING → JEALOUS MALE → WRITHING HORROR, then return to the boss.
06
Continue after combat ends
If you remain temporarily in combat after the kill, wait and check nearby enemies instead of assuming an exit door is broken.
Story Mode: Story: one player can use the red flower/pheromone pool to group offspring safely; boss burrowing occurs on a predictable route.
Veteran Mode: Veteran: the tank's INCUBATION stacks determine add spawns. New tanks should coordinate swaps and cleansing to manage Foul Offspring timing.
Stuck here? Adds everywhere? Someone needs to step into the CALMING PHEROMONE puddle. Players on the SWTOR forums reported some historic runs where the pool appeared late during lag; that report dates to 2013 and is not a confirmed live bug.
How you reach this boss: Continue through Asation to the THREE DREAD GUARD commanders. This is one phased fight, not three separate bosses reached from different doors.
01
Assign tanks to Ciphas and Kel'sara
HEIRAD stands still and casts at random players. Tanks handle CIPHAS and KEL'SARA and keep their dangerous cleaves away from the group.
02
FIRST target HEIRAD
Damage HEIRAD first. When he becomes immune behind a barrier, target CIPHAS and INTERRUPT his EMPOWERED BARRIER channel to expose Heirad again.
03
SECOND target CIPHAS
After Heirad dies, attack CIPHAS. Watch for GREEN EXPIATORY MOTES circles; do not casually stand in them.
04
Handle DOOM immediately
If you receive DOOM (two stacks), move through TWO separate GREEN PUDDLES to remove those stacks before the timer expires; leaving even one stack can kill you.
05
THIRD target KEL'SARA
After Ciphas is defeated, KEL'SARA is last. Tanks coordinate swaps on the stacking debuff; the group spreads if marked and follows the leader's position call.
06
Finish only after third boss
Ensure all three commanders are dead before moving to the central Gree puzzle complex.
Story Mode: Story: Heirad → Ciphas → Kel'sara; Doom requires two green puddles and is not a normal healer-cleanse button.
Veteran Mode: Veteran: additional Force Leech and Lightning Field dangers demand coordination; do not stack blindly or heal a player affected by Force Leech before checking its mechanics.
Stuck here? Doom keeps killing us? Leave green puddles available for the DOOM player; a player with two stacks must cross two distinct puddles before it expires.
ENCOUNTER 03 / 05 · GREE HYPERGATE OPERATOR CONTROL ROOM
Operator IX: four-color puzzle
How you reach this boss: At the central Gree control room, STOP at the colored entry panels before everyone clicks. The encounter requires TWO PLAYERS PER COLOR in an eight-player group.
01
Assign 2 players per color
Before entering, choose BLUE pair, ORANGE pair, PURPLE pair and YELLOW pair. Each player clicks exactly ONE of the FOUR COLORED PANELS to teleport in and acquire that color buff.
02
Fix the wrong buff
If a player picked the wrong color, use the teleport/reset panel just inside the room to leave and reassign before pulling. No one should have two colors.
03
Agree on circle + console roles
For each color, one designated player STANDS ON THE INNER CIRCLE OF THAT COLOR and the other CHANNELS THE MATCHING CONSOLE. Do not assume two players standing in the circle will release the shield.
04
Perform all FOUR Scalene color phases
When MASTER CONTROL activates BLUE / ORANGE / PURPLE / YELLOW phase, the corresponding pair coordinates circle and console to drop the shields on DATA CORES while DPS destroy the exposed cores.
05
Destroy EIGHT data cores
The goal in the opening phase is to break TWO DATA CORES per color, EIGHT total. Clear the spawning Recognizer/Regulator droids as required.
06
Operator IX enters after cores
After eight cores are defeated, target OPERATOR IX and manage its droid adds. Its BLACK OBTUSE phase creates colored circles around the platform.
07
Deactivate matching BLACK OBTUSE circles
Only players who HAVE THE MATCHING COLOR BUFF should click/stand in circles of that color during Black Obtuse; clear all indicated circles quickly before the raid-wide punishment.
08
Veteran: Color Deletion
If OPERATOR IX marks a player for COLOR DELETION, teammates with the required colors coordinate the prescribed buff/circle mechanics. Follow the raid leader's 2-player color assignments and don't wander into another color's job.
Story Mode: Story: four colored pairs, console+inner circle per phase, eight total data cores, then Black Obtuse circles according to your assigned color.
Veteran Mode: Veteran: the color timings tighten and COLOR DELETION PROTOCOL / DISINFECTION add significant pressure. A tank should watch threat after Black Obtuse and the group must manage the target call.
Stuck here? The puzzle won't progress? Check that FOUR COLORS were split 2/2/2/2. For each active color verify ONE PLAYER in the center color circle and ANOTHER CHANNELING the console. This is one of the raid's best-documented pickup-group failure points.
How you reach this boss: After Operator IX continue along the unlocked Gree hypergate path to KEPHESS THE UNDYING. This is a new encounter, not Warlord Kephess's walker fight from Denova.
01
Tank Kephess
In Story Mode, keep KEPHESS facing away and burn until he begins his tower phases. Watch the marked ground leaps.
02
Watch CORRUPTED NANITES
One player gets CORRUPTED NANITES. Only affected players can interact with the HYPERGATE CONTROL TOWERS to collapse one.
03
Position the boss by tower
Have the tank bring Kephess near an available tower; the Nanites player uses the tower's scripted interaction.
04
COLLAPSE the tower
When the eligible player channels HYPERGATE TOWER COLLAPSE, the tower falls and can STUN and expose Kephess if close enough.
05
Avoid DREAD BOMB
The red target from Kephess's leap should MOVE AWAY from other players before the impact; do not stack the entire group under it.
06
Finish the last burn
As Kephess reaches the final low-health burn, use defensives, keep him positioned and finish without standing under collapsing structures.
Story Mode: Story: the tower interaction both clears Corrupted Nanites and can stun Kephess. Unlike the Denova version there is no Baradium walker bomb.
Veteran Mode: Veteran: additional phases and stricter boss-target/tower coordination make positioning and tank cooldowns more important.
Stuck here? Can't click the tower? The tower-collapse interaction belongs to the player who HAS CORRUPTED NANITES; a random DPS with no debuff cannot activate it.
How you reach this boss: After Kephess proceed to the ancient Gree HYPERGATE arena. The final fight begins on an island and later TELEPORTS the raid onto separate floating platforms.
01
On island: kill TUNNELING TENTACLES
Do NOT burn the giant Terror body first. The group's objective is to DAMAGE TUNNELING TENTACLES; killing them removes health from the Terror.
02
Face tentacles away
Tanks point the tentacle cleave away from the group. The Terror's SLAM is a large frontal blast; follow the leader's cover or out-of-range positioning.
03
Kill UNSTABLE LARVA
Two Unstable Larvae can race toward players and EXPLODE; DPS prioritize these before they reach their targets.
04
Avoid running BIRTHED LARVAE
Between tentacle waves, small Birthed Larvae rush toward the coast and detonate if touched or attacked inappropriately. Follow the safe shore crossing called by the raid.
05
Take the TELEPORT to platforms
When the island phase concludes, your group moves onto the floating HYPERGATE PLATFORMS. Stay with the designated half of the group: platform changes involve jumps and connectors, not a normal corridor.
06
Target platform tentacles
On the platforms, again prioritize the TUNNELING TENTACLES rather than the untargetable central Terror body. Check which platforms your assigned tank and healer occupy.
07
Do not fall
Avoid jumping off the side, and wait for the raid's platform movement and teleport calls. A Vengeance Juggernaut should not use Force Charge to jump to an enemy across open void if it risks a fall.
08
Final exposed burn
After the tentacle cycles expose the final target, follow the raid leader's final burn and confirm quest credit before leaving Asation.
Story Mode: Story: island waves lead to hypergate floating platforms. Tentacle kills reduce Terror health; attacking the wrong target causes a stalled encounter.
Veteran Mode: Veteran: both slam positioning and platform coordination matter much more; errors in moving between platform pairs or missing tentacle/larva priority can wipe the raid.
Stuck here? Not dealing any damage to the Terror? Target TUNNELING TENTACLES. In the platform phase, follow assigned crossing routes and avoid fighting the enormous central model as if it were a normal boss.

Where is Terror from Beyond for Empire?
Use the Imperial Fleet capital ship ZIOST SHADOW, MISSION DECK, and the TERROR FROM BEYOND door to ASATION. Republic guides use Gav Daragon; do not follow those fleet labels on an Imperial character.
Is Terror from Beyond the same thing as Explosive Conflict?
No. Explosive Conflict is the FOUR-boss Denova Operation. Terror from Beyond is the FIVE-boss Asation Operation released afterward. Kephess appears in both, but with completely different mechanics.
Can we bring companions instead of 8 people to Operator IX?
An official SWTOR forum discussion explains that Operator IX requires actual players to perform the paired color console and circle actions. Companions cannot click the assigned panels. Form a real Operation group.
In an eight-player group choose exactly TWO BLUE, TWO ORANGE, TWO PURPLE and TWO YELLOW. The active color pair must perform INNER CIRCLE and CONSOLE roles, then kill both exposed Data Cores. Picking a color randomly is a common cause of failure.
I picked the wrong color, do we have to abandon the Operation?
No. The guide identifies an exit panel just inside Operator IX's room that lets a player teleport back out and select the proper color BEFORE the next pull.
The Dread Guards Doom debuff kills me while I run to healer?
Healer dispel isn't the solution: the player with two Doom stacks must travel through TWO GREEN Expiatory Motes puddles. Save these green pools rather than consuming them accidentally.
Our first boss's pheromone pool doesn't spawn on time. Is the instance broken?
A 2013 SWTOR forum report describes lag delaying the Writhing Horror's pool and add spawns. That is HISTORICAL player evidence, not verification of a current defect. First check whether a healer/assigned player is watching the correct flower and add wave.
The last boss has no damage numbers when we attack the huge monster?
Damage its TUNNELING TENTACLES first. Their deaths damage the main Terror; the fight later moves to floating Hypergate platforms with another set of tentacle waves.
