Hive of the Mountain Queen: Geonosian Queen Operation Walkthrough

Find the Mutated Geonosian Queen beneath Ossus's Catacombs. This single-boss Operation has a circular chamber surrounded by eggs and toxic goo, but the most important tasks are reaching the boss hole, unlocking the wipe shortcut, controlling hatchlings, and killing Royal Guards before they shield her.

How to get to the Imperial Operation entrance

Imperial Fleet or ship → OSSUS → unlock Ossus / Jedi Under Siege access → CATACOMBS Quick Travel/taxi near Kil'cik → cave entrance → clear Geonosian packs → LOOSE ROCK FORMATION shortcut → drop into Queen's chamber.

Available modes: Eight- or sixteen-player STORY and VETERAN. No Master/Nightmare mode. This is an Operation rather than a solo Ossus story phase. A separate weekly is available from appropriate Operations/Ossus terminals.

  1. 01

Get to OSSUS through the story or world map

Fly to OSSUS or use an available unlocked travel route. Characters who have not reached JEDI UNDER SIEGE may need to progress story access or coordinate travel with their group.

  2. 02

    Take the CATACOMBS travel point

Open the OSSUS WORLD MAP and head to the CATACOMBS taxi / Quick Travel location; the entrance to Hive of the Mountain Queen is near this southern region, close to the Kil'cik world-boss vicinity.

  3. 03

Enter the Operation and clear TRASH groups

Meet your Operations group at the HIVE OF THE MOUNTAIN QUEEN instance door. Move through the tunnel and clear the mutated GEONOSIAN PACKS; several of their eggs/add behaviors preview the boss mechanics.

  4. 04

Click the LOOSE ROCK FORMATION shortcut

Before dropping into the final Queen chamber, RIGHT-CLICK the LOOSE ROCK FORMATION to open a shortcut. If the raid wipes, this makes the return journey considerably easier.

  5. 05

Observe the southern drop and circular layout

The arena entrance is a HOLE / DROP on the SOUTH side of a circular room. Mark the central tank position, the green TOXIC GOO ring, egg clusters and guard spawn sites before starting.

  6. 06

Optional: collect relics before the pull

There are FOUR LOST OSSAN RELICS / masks hidden in this Operation for an achievement and decoration. These are entirely OPTIONAL and not prerequisites to killing the Queen.

ENCOUNTER 01 / 01 · Circular underground Ossus chamber, four egg types and toxic outer ring

Mutated Geonosian Queen

How you reach this boss: After clearing the Catacombs tunnel and opening the loose-rock shortcut, DROP through the southern hole into the Queen's circular arena. Queen begins toward the north; tank her near CENTER.

  1. 01

Tank Queen in the CENTER away from toxic goo

Pull the Mutated Geonosian Queen into the CENTER of the circular chamber. Avoid the OUTER GREEN TOXIC GOO ring. Leave distance between the center pile and intact eggs so accidental cleave doesn't spawn unnecessary hatchlings.

  2. 02

Stack ordinary Geonosian adds on the boss

Most adds spawned from eggs or side entrances should be brought into the center for coordinated AOE and damage-over-time spread. An off-tank may gather Royal Guards; Caustic Drones need more attention to their own attacks.

  3. 03

    Handle Pheromonic Blast targeted CIRCLES

The Queen targets a player with large overlapping YELLOW/RED circles. That player must MOVE AWAY from the group and any intact eggs. The center of the blast applies TOXIC PHEROMONE COATING and can destroy eggs; the outer circle can crack other eggs.

  4. 04

Watch BLUE, RED, CRACKED and INTACT eggs

Different egg colors and cracked states influence what hatches when hit. Avoid random AoE near the egg fields; repeated explosions can fill the arena with extra Geonosians, stretching the raid's healers and damage.

  5. 05

    Switch to GEONOSIAN ROYAL GUARDS

When ROYAL GUARDS appear, damage dealers stop tunneling Queen and burn down the Guards. They SHIELD the Queen; trying to attack the boss while guards protect her is wasted time.

  6. 06

Keep Royal Guards away from Queen in Veteran

On VETERAN, Royal Guards become faster and more dangerous close to the Queen, and stunned targets can suffer lethal follow-ups. Have off-tank control them away from center and healers prepare for burst.

  7. 07

Respond to tank STUNS on Veteran

Veteran Queen can stun the current tank before a dangerous follow-up. Tanks should be ready with their STUN BREAKER and the second tank should be ready to TAUNT if the active tank is incapacitated.

  8. 08

Allow growth and hatching windows safely

Queen periodically pauses in a lengthy cast and then triggers more hatching from the eggs. Clear remaining adds before the hatch resolves where possible, rather than saving Royal Guards until the next wave.

  9. 09

    Manage the escalation over time

Later in the fight Pheromonic Blast can mark MULTIPLE PLAYERS and egg-hatch effects spread farther. Keep marking players separated; do not place overlapping circles through the melee stack.

  10. 10

    Burn before the full ENRAGE

Older encounter references describe escalating pressure around four and six-and-a-half minutes with final enrage near seven minutes forty-five seconds. Treat those historical timing figures as approximate; clear guards quickly and finish the Queen.

  11. 11

Collect relevant completion and hidden items

After the Queen is defeated check your current [WEEKLY] Hive of the Mountain Queen and any unlocked achievement progress. Relics and cosmetic drops are optional, not a hidden condition for the kill.

Story Mode: Story: tank Queen centrally, avoid outer toxic goo, group and clear normal hatchlings, move marked Pheromonic Blast circles away, and ALWAYS prioritize Royal Guards that shield her.

Veteran Mode: Veteran: tank stuns can be followed by dangerous attacks, Royal Guards are far more threatening and the egg system generates greater pressure. Prepare stun-break/taunt roles and avoid clustering targeted blast circles.

Stuck here? If boss health does not fall, ROYAL GUARDS are shielding her: switch targets and kill those guards. If the room fills with adds, avoid sweeping Pheromonic Blast and uncontrolled AoE across the eggs. After wipes, use the LOOSE ROCK FORMATION shortcut opened before jumping down.

REDDIT, SWTOR FORUMS & PUBLISHED GUIDES

Common raid problems and how players solved them

Player reports are not guaranteed fixes for every game version. These answers link to their source so readers can check the original context.

Where exactly is the Hive entrance on OSSUS?

Use OSSUS WORLD MAP → CATACOMBS travel point. The Operation entrance is near the Catacombs / KIL'CIK world-boss region, NOT at the main Imperial Ossus mission console. Enter with the group, clear cave trash and DROP through the southern hole into the Queen chamber.

Original discussion or mechanic reference ↗

How do we unlock the boss-room shortcut after wipes?

Before dropping into the arena, CLICK the LOOSE ROCK FORMATION in the approach tunnels. That opens the useful shortcut for future runs; it does not summon or unlock the Queen.

Original discussion or mechanic reference ↗

Why is the Queen immune or taking no damage?

GEONOSIAN ROYAL GUARDS grant the Queen protection. Burn them down immediately; damage to the Queen is largely wasted while she remains shielded.

Original discussion or mechanic reference ↗

Why do we suddenly have dozens of egg adds?

PHEROMONIC BLAST cracks and destroys eggs in its overlapping circle zones, releasing hatchlings. The targeted player should take the circles AWAY from intact eggs and the group; careless cleave near egg clusters also causes spawns.

Original discussion or mechanic reference ↗

What is the poisonous green ring on the outside?

The OUTER GREEN GOO of the circular chamber deals toxic damage. Tank the Queen near CENTER and keep players out of the outer hazard except when a targeted mechanic demands movement.

Original discussion or mechanic reference ↗

What is dangerous about Royal Guards in VETERAN?

They become stronger near the Queen and can use deadly follow-up attacks against a stunned target. An off-tank should separate/control them and the raid should kill them rapidly.

Original discussion or mechanic reference ↗

What if the Queen stuns the tank?

In Veteran the Queen's tank stun precedes a potentially lethal hit. Have the stunned tank use a BREAKER when appropriate and the other tank ready to TAUNT to redirect the dangerous attack.

Original discussion or mechanic reference ↗

Do I need to find four masks before killing Queen?

No. The four LOST OSSAN RELICS / masks are an OPTIONAL hidden achievement and cosmetic-decoration collection, not boss mechanics. Your raid can complete the Operation without them.
