How to read this topic

Religion in Star Wars is broader than the Jedi and Sith. Different communities interpret cosmic power, death, ancestry, destiny, sacred place, moral obligation, and legitimate authority through distinct institutions and practices. Some traditions center on Force-sensitive specialists, while others include lay believers who do not display Jedi-style abilities.

The IDS religion cluster organizes those differences rather than treating every reference to the Force as the same theology. The main Religion & Worldviews archive covers the Jedi, Sith, Nightsisters, Church of the Force, Guardians of the Whills, Mandalorian creeds, the Brendok coven, the Path of the Open Hand, and Lasat traditions. Sacred planet pages add pilgrimage, ruins, temples, vergences, tombs, mines, ancestral landscapes, and sites of religious repression.

Culture pages are equally important because not every worldview is an organized religion. Mandalorian, Twi'lek, Chiss, Ferrix, Imperial, Rebel, Nightsister, and other social worlds contain moral assumptions, rituals, memories, and relationships to place that may be religious, civic, ancestral, or political. IDS keeps those categories separate when the evidence is limited.

Key questions

Use these answers as a map before opening the deeper archive files.

Is the Force itself a religion?

The Force is interpreted through many religions and philosophies. Different groups disagree about what it is, how it should be approached, and who has legitimate authority to teach about it.

Do people need Force powers to be religious?

No. The Church of the Force and Guardians of the Whills demonstrate religious devotion without requiring Jedi-style Force sensitivity.

Why do sacred places matter?

Places such as Jedha, Ahch-To, Dathomir, Moraband, Exegol, Brendok, Mandalore, and Peridea tie belief to landscape, pilgrimage, ancestry, memory, and political control.
